mxdinosaur
I recently installed Chariot performance reed cages, and I can't get the engine to run right. It was running great before I installed the cages, no it runs like it has an air leak: high idle, rpm's hang when throttle is applied and sometimes takes off by itself and the kill switch won't shut it. I have tried the cages with gaskets, without the gasket on the rubber side, and with yamabond 4 on all the sealing surfaces. The stock rubber manifolds look new, no cracks tears, or jacked up surfaces. The manifolds don't appear to be leaking. I tried raising the needle, adjusting the air screw, checking the cables to see if they are binding. I can't find a solution. The slides are synchonized and move freely. My next thing is to try putting the oem cages back in. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any thing I may have overlooked?
sheerider11
Do that. Throw the old ones back in. And if it's still acting up run the bike and when it's idling spray brake cleaner or something along those lines around the boots and see if the idle changes or smoke comes out the exhaust. There's your leak.
quadpro26
if it idles down at all you can find an airleak buy spraying carb clean around the cage area. if the idle doesnt pick up then it isnt an air leak. might just need a jetting change
mxdinosaur
I found the problem, and thank bansheehq for the help. The problem was that the choke tube wasn't connected. It must have fallen off when I removed the carbs. I put the tube back on and the problem was solved.I wish I would have noticed it before taking the manifold off 4 times.
