Adding a 4 stroke to the garage, Which one to BUY ?

Recommended Posts

Now that I have got my Banshee to where I am pretty much done with mods. I am looking to add a 4-stroke bike to my garage and need opinions. I am currently looking at the Can-AM DS450 X MX, YFZ450, and LTR450. I am leaning towards snatching up the DS b/c they are fully setup with long travel suspension from the factory along with extended rear axle. If anyone could give me so information on the bikes and which is a better buy please do and I Thank you ahead of time.

Honda 450r is definitley not even a choice. Joe yours is pretty sick and fully setup which makes it a awesome bike, but out the box the 450r's are trash.

Yea the LTR 450 is sweet I use to own one back in 2006. I purchased brand new and ended up selling it like a dumb ass. I wish I still had it. I was looking around on craigslist and they are going pretty cheap right now so maybe I will snatch one of those up. The LTR have a ton power on the bottem and end pull up top, plus its easier to find aftermarket parts for them.

Two of my buddys have the can am, One of them sized the top end in about 6 months and the other one blew a hole in the rear of the case, not sure how. Both had purchased them from the dealer new. I would go with a yfz or 450r, although I feel that the yfz is super uncomfortable.

I didn't see anyone mention the new YFZ450R. They are hands down the best bike out of the box that I have ridden, by far. One draw back is that they require a little more money to get power out of compared to the carb bikes, but the handling makes up for it easily. I went on a poker run with a guy that had just bought a CanAm 450 and it sounded like the valve train was getting ready to blow apart. I don't know if it was bad luck or a lemon, but it sounded horrible. The KFX450s are very narrow and stiff. I dont like my buddys kfx at all. Two of my buddies have LTRs and they are constently fighting their fuel injecters. Plus, I can bottom out their bikes fairly easily. I've never rode a KTM so I can't share any experience there, but my vote goes to the YFZ450R! They look good, handle excellent and are by far the most comfortable. Heres a pic of my bike. I've added quite a few more upgrades since this pic, but its the most recent.
