CAJUN BANSHEE
What's up banshee bros, tell me what yall think. Got a fully ported 4mill long rod on meth, and the crank bearing on the clutch side exploded. After tearing the motor down I found a bearing keeper at the top of the case and at the bottom of the case. There is only supposed to be one at the bottom right? And if so can having both of those half moon keepers in there cause it to explode like that.
2004LEBanshee
Stockers come with just 1 keeper. FAST and others sell a keeper that goes all the way around the bearing so I doubt thats the prob.

What else could be the culprit?
Jereme6655
could be a number of things.....could be running a life of slightly too lean, or just a bad bearing off the production line or a crank that is out of spec.....or even a crank that is slighlty unbalanced.... camatv
too much power on angle gears. crappy bearing install. old motor, bad crank true bad weld job. bad assembly practice. wrong oil mixed with fuel .. just to name a few.. CAJUN BANSHEE
Yeah, I'll buy that, but it sucks that this is only my second ride on the dunes and now i need to rebuild. Oh, and this is the second motor that failed for me this year. Ok I'll stop whining but it sucks and is costly. Come to think of it, I did swap out the bottom case with another that was better looking, that could have threw it off you think.

camatv
wow yea it was the bearing's fault for sure...
CAJUN BANSHEE
Shit, ok, don't beat me up too bad. Still learning fellas, the hard way I guess. Think I'll put the original lower back on after the rebuild. Just hope my cylinder can be salvaged. Thanx fellas.

CAJUN BANSHEE
Cam, you said angle cut gears and too much pwr, that could be. How can I tell the diff from straight and angle is it obvious or not. Don't know if that was done this motor or not.
Jereme6655
cajun.....when we're talking angle cut gears and too much power we are talking SERIOUS power....the kind of power that you usually see in strictly drag bikes. im not saying that you aren't making that kind of power....but from a glance at your avatar photo it looks to be a mild hopped up banshee.......nothing that would warrant straight cut gears. CAJUN BANSHEE
Oh ok, this motor was supposed to be between the 80-90 HP range. Just trying to get as much info as I can so I can rebuild this motor right and keep it reliable.
SLOPOKE21
Make sure your flywheel is installed correctly, spins true, and isn't burred up on the mating surfaces.
