SmartParts
i am not designing the ECU, a local company is going to make one for me. if i am assembling legos, then cool. edit: also what type of ignition system does a banshee have? from my research, a CDI is a type of digital electronic ignition. Cdi- capacitor discharge ignition. It fires a spark when the flywheel passed the crank sensor. Sounds fairly mechanical to me. What do you call it? That's certainly not digital or electronic. One timing does not fit all...
SmartParts
Obviously its going to be electrical, but its not electronic or digital. Can you please explain how a cdi changes timing?
So Cal Suspension
I am curious to see how this turns out. I have a 2 stroke Kawasaki Stand up jet ski and I know there are kits on the market to convert them to EFI. I know the motors are set up different, but I have seen it done on both a reed inducted 550 two stroke and a piston port 550 two stroke. Here is a picture of the kit for sale on another forum made by Injected Research Specialists bought from west coast for a 550 reed motor. I can post up contents if any is curious. I also know that JSR Performance has been successful in putting an EFI kit on a Banshee. I don't know a lot about Fuel Injection for 2 strokes but I am sure it would be a fun project. I'm glad you posted this, it reminded me of something. I had a 1992 Kawasaki 550sx ski with (I think, maybe different brand) that kit. It worked fantastic. Typically the ski was used at low elevations, but when we'd go up to Big Bear Lake (7,000 ft), it ran WAY too lean. After I had the fuel injection, I never had to worry. It was a standalone system, I believe. I wonder if a system similar to the Holley ProJection would be more feasible on the banshee application? SmartParts
http://www.sportdevices.com/ignition/ignition.htm Nothing on that website mentions the ability of a cdi to change timing. Try again
THE358BANSH
the CDI on a banshee is very basic, probably to keep cost down. take the RZ350, same design concept, but the CDI does change the timing. so is it mechanical too? As mentioned, there is a difference between electrical and electronic Zilla. The Banshee CDI does change timing via RPM. The curve is 17 degrees up to 2000rpm, advancing to 22 degrees at 3500rpm, then retarding to 9 degrees at 10,000 rpm. When you put an adjustable plate on and put it at +4, you are only adding four degrees of advance to the numbers mentioned previously while the physical shape of the curve stays the same. To alter the shape of the curve, you use a different rating capacitor(s) and sometimes a different thermistor. Lots of interesting info being tossed around in this thread... camatv
hmm if it was me i think i'd be buying that jetski kit... dosent look to hard to make work on a banshee.. if it has live tuning or whatever might just work out. oh then there are all those wires and boxes and electrical stuff.. i too like carb's BUT the injection is the way of the future.. i didnt know polaris stole the injection technology. that is some BS

Nutwood 472
Zilla is building an EFI bike. He says that by May it will be up and blazing through the trails. I am predicting that it won't run for shit and he will end up putting the carb back on it. I will need some proof in the form of videos and such. I predict there will be no videos because it won't run for shit. I second that,it will be back on ebay by the end of May
KarTek
These guys make a complete 2 stroke kit and it might be worth a look: http://www.ecotrons.com/2_Stroke_Small_Engine_EFI_kit.html
