jayzx10r Posted November 7, 2011 Report Posted November 7, 2011 Maybe the thing to do is call Kevin and ask him what the differences are between the two. My understanding is that he's a straight shooter. Quote
locogato11283 Posted November 7, 2011 Report Posted November 7, 2011 Thanks for all the info, but I'm like short circuit more input, more input...... a lot of guys look but no input. Help me make my choice in the next hour. Please help need a least 3 more. That's because you've already been told everything you need to know. Kevin is a straight up builder. He isn't going to risk getting a bad name over some junk parts. Keep in mind though that EVERYTHING eventually fails, regardless of brand. Quote
SonOfSand Posted November 7, 2011 Report Posted November 7, 2011 You can trust what ever Kevin tells you. I got a 4 mil kit from him over 2 years ago, have put much time on it with no problems. You cant go wrong with him! Quote
duramaxsmoke Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 are u feeling a huge diff with 4 mill Quote
Christada Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 2.5 years ago I got the 4mil hot rod crank.. I didn't have it ported though It blew up on me this weekend.. my fault probably.. patched the radiator with some epoxy stuff.. it got hot Anyway my banshee is in the shop now.. getting the HJR 4mil with the dune/play port Quote
XxlongshotxX Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 never had any problems with my hjr crank Quote
camatv Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 so HJR casts his own cranks? sweet. Quote
sprinklerman Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 I was under the impression that most all the non HotRods cranks were from Mr. Wang...aka Competitive Crankshafts, AKA SStar on ebay?? I've been wondering this for awhile but cant seem to get a definitive answer. Anybody know for sure? Quote
zach45 Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Has anyone taken one of these "generic" cranks out of the bike after beating on it for a year or 2 and spec it out? Can anyone post up there results?? I never used one of these cranks but I'm a little warey about how well they hold up. Hot rod/ wiseco have been proven for years and years, and to save 90 IMHO is a tad foolish to skimp on a crank.. The crank goes 99% of the time the whole motors going with it... I'm just playing the devils advocate here Zach Quote
zach45 Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 And I have herd of these cranks failing , but I herd this all secon hand so Ill discredit those story's... I just think this is being penny wise and dollar foolish. I would love to hear of some 4 mil cubs with these cranks and how they looked after a tear down Quote
wacko2000 Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 I think Kevin sells these cranks for 399.99 Hot rods cranks can be bought NEW for alittle over 400 so there isn't a big difference in price at all. I do believe that a few LI guys are having some issues with there cranks from Kevin, not sure on all the details but maybe they will chime in and get us all up to date here. Zach I agree with what your saying though Joe Quote
FASTOYS Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 I agree with the above statements. Im pretty sure Kevin doesnt cast his own cranks. All these guys selling the generic or " Wang" lol cranks are prolly getting them from the same place out west. I have heard of failures but only second hand also. BUT, the second hand i heard from also came and bought a Known brand crank from us so pretty good source i would say.. Some have also told me of cleanrance issues and not being true after running them for awhile.. Im in NO way discrediting Andy or Kevin or anyone else that sells these cranks in the least bit and maybe these few cases are the only problems....But it makes you wonder. We have been using /selling Hot Rods cranks for 10-12 years and several mtrs are still running them. On a side note , i have had trouble with Wiseco cranks , therefore we no longer sell those. Quote
Sandking Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Kevin sold me a hot rod crank with my build 1 1/2 years ago Quote
