bansheechas
I was riding my quad around the yard and it was running fine. I then came to a stop and it died. I tried to kick it and it wouldn't start. I choked it and it started, before it died It was running fine then just shut off, it would start and barley idle then under any throttle would die and it won't start now at all. I put new plugs in it but i forgot which plug wire goes on which plug and I tried it both ways and it didn't start. I need help asap please if you need any other info or details about the quad ill let you know I'm not sure what you'd need to know about it. thanks
bansheechas
id start off with a compression test.. see what your compression is at. take apart carbs? are the plugs getting fuel? broken reeds? Im not sure but I have a compression tester but i have a cool head and domes so the standard 14mm long reach won't fit. I was going to trade for a really nice mustang today but pretty much I'm screwed?
bansheechas
lol yeah i made sure of all of that because i have done that before. I got it all apart, took the carb all apart, it looked pretty much brand new, I sprayed carb cleaner on everything in it anyways. I think its a spark thing honestly. The reeds looked fine, there were no cracks or anything but I have never taken a banshee apart so I'm not too sure what I'm looking for. The pistons looked fine along with the piston sleeves. I kicked it over slowly and everything seemed to by working correctly. It got stuck in gear randomly a couple days ago if that makes any difference. I think its a spark issue because when i gave it throttle when it would only idle it just sounded like it got flooded out. Im pretty sure it is either a head gasket or spark issue. But the main thing is I'm not a expert so what should I be looking for? Im about to pull the head and see what the head gasket looks like. Is there anything special when taking the head off or is it pretty much right there the bolts and water pump hoses? thanks for the help here is some pics if they help http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/clutchshift/cd56cec4.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/clutchshift/b4d0fbca.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/clutchshift/d687ca4c.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/clutchshift/b06dc98b.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/clutchshift/29cc514c.jpg http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae74/clutchshift/9aef0a93.jpg

bansheechas
Sounds electrical... I guess a broken coil or loose wiring.. ill go through the wiring wheres the coil at ill check it. is it the thing that the plug wires are coming from if your following them back up from the plugs themselves? it seemed like it was flooding out getting no spark when it shut off Edited October 18, 2011 by bansheechas
rjdgriff
Yeah when you trace your plug wires back you will find the coil. It's just 2 bolts holding it on. Simple swap out
Dicklez
One basic thing to do is pull apart all your electrical connectors and spray them with contact cleaner and see if they are comiing apart. Sometimes people who cant get them apart break the little locking tabs off. My CDI connector was coming apart one time and did the same thing. fastbanshee8
If the TORS is still hooked up, look under the left side of the tank, and unplug the little black box.
bansheechas
just checked it, no spark. I ran through the wires and didn't see anything that stood out. I am going to go through it really closely and order a ignition. The tors box isn't hooked up so ill go through them then get back
Buckwheat
I recently had to replace my key switch. Check that as well. Wheat
bansheechas
Im going to check over it again in better light. Do the ignitions go out frequently, mine looks oem. Also do stators ever go bad? like the title says its a 2001 and the stator and ignition look original. it has a aftermarket vitos kill switch as well, ill check that for any issues. thanks for all the help
bansheechas
on a more recent inspection i found out that the tors is still connected. I did some research on this and this seems like it is the culprit. I found a thread on how to delete this and will do it tomorrow and let you guys know the results. Could the tors starting to malfunction cause the quad not to idle? About two weeks ago, it would idle then after riding it pretty hard one day it didn't want to start so i choked it and it started right up. from then on it never idled and it got worse and now this happened. Does this sound like a failing tors? Edited October 19, 2011 by bansheechas
Jereme6655
well checking the tors is not real hard......there is a little black box under the left side of the gas tank.....disconnect it. no more tors. Its the brain box that is under the tank.....and yes the TORS usually winds up going bad on most of the banshees....
bansheechas
So I got it back together and unplugged the tors, still no luck. Still not getting spark. I checked for grounds and I only found one. It was good. The tors is unplugged now all the wiring seems to be solid and connected tightly. Can the vitos kill switch go bad? How can i test the ignition? Could the stator be bad as well? what are some other things that cause no spark and Ill check them. Thanks I checked it both ways but to be sure, which wire goes on which plug? Edited October 19, 2011 by bansheechas
Jereme6655
it does not matter which plug wire you hook to which plug.....both plugs fire at the same exact time.....
