Difference between Air strikers, PJ's & Traditional Keihns

Im lookin at buyin some carbs here pretty soon and just gotta do a little askin around first.. gonna be about 35 or 36mm.. Found a nice set of PJ's for sale but i was told they arent the ones to get.. The Air strikers or just the traditional Keihins are.. Just lookin for any thoughts, opinions or facts on what you guys know or would prefer about these carbs. Thanks! Let me know the goods and bads! Thanks again!

The PJ carb is your meat and potatoes in the 2 stroke world.It has been factory equip on everything from 125-500 on a range of manufacturers.It is a very simple design that utilizes a combination knob for the choke/idle and has an oval slide.They are a little tricky to jet for the novice,but anyone who understands carbs will have no problems dialing one in.

 

The PWk is more refined.it has become the standard in kehin 2 stroke carburation.It is basically the replacement for the PJ.It utilizes a choke knob that is separate from the idle screws.The slide is also different,more of a crescent shape than oval

 

The PWK airstryker is an "improved" version of the standard pwk.Its preferred by racers for its tuneability and wide range of performance.

thanks for your input.. so the pwk airstryker is basically the way to go?

Really? im gonna be racin on ice and doing a lot of tuning too.. some days its -10 and other days its 40 degrees.. What about the PJ's??

 

I would consider PJ's as old and out dated. I had a set of 34's and ditched them for PWK33's. The only thing they do better that the PWK is that they can be bought cheaper. So if your looking to save some coin and dont mind screwing with them then go for it. There are guys on here who do run PJ's.

I run 34 PJ's & personally think they are a very good carb. I wouldn't switch from a PJ to PWK because the price of the switch isn't worth it. From my experience of tuning PJ & PWK carbs are the same except the choke/idle knob on the PJ is all in one.

 

It's easy:

PJ carb

Pull choke/idle knob up = choke on

Push choke/idle knob down = choke off

Turn choke/idle knob by clicks clockwise/right = higher idle

Turn choke/idle knob by clicks counter clockwise/left = lower idle

Tuning PJ and PWK is not the same. The PWK are far easier. They're a more up to date carb. If you don't have enough for PWK I'd save until you do. There is no easier carb to tune than the PWK.

 

From my understanding of jetting & tuning carbs you use the same concept on both carbs. The only differnce is PJ has choke/idle knob on same knob. PWK has a knob for the choke & screw for the idle. I do understand that the PWK is more modern, but what makes the PWK so much easier?
