While it was there he said it was idling in neutral and it lurched forward and died. The previous weekend it happened to me also. They said it was either the counter shaft bearing or a bushing from the second gear are going out. He said if its the bearing it will end up seizing up bringing me to a screaching halt. I have a feeling this is what it is since I have a small oil leak from the sprocket. He said i might be able to get a couple more rides out of it to get me thru the riding season. My question is, 1. Does this all sound right? 2. When this thing goes what other damage is it going to cause? He said the damage is already done and when it goes it will just have to be fixed. However, i dont know how their labor prices compare to site sponsors. To me they seem a little high whenever they quote me labor. I always do it my self and save the money. They have always treated me right, but after having them do the work they did this week, I'm not to excited to have to spend even more $$. I have tore boat motors and car motors apart and put back together with out problems, but for some reason I'm scared to do the banshee my self. Iv never had it or anything like it apart. I graduated from MMI so i have a hard time letting anyone do work on my banshee because it is so much cheaper and enjoyable to do it myself. Banshee motors are super easy to work on compared to all the other, newer bikes. Its almost like working on an old 350 compared to these new cars that have 30 computers in them. You know what i mean....Grab a clymers manual and keep this site handy and you can build/ work on your own bike and save the labor money for more goodies! Does it just seize, or does it blow the whole transmission out? If it is a bearing and you continue to ride it, it could damage the shaft the bearing is riding on. That is one more thing you could have to buy. There is a possibility to damage the gears in the transmission if parts of the bearing are rolling around inside the tranny or the bearing is bad enough to cause gear mesh mis alignment. If it were me I would just pull the motor and fix it. As previously stated, the banshee motor is piss simple. Hell, you can eve flip it upside down and just remove the lower case half to repair the transmission. Depending on the condition of the top end, this might be the route to go. camatv Posted September 23, 2011 Report Share Posted September 23, 2011 i hate splitting the cases with the top end on anymore i just take the top off. its a BITCH to get the forks lined up right and i am pretty particular on how clean everything is when i put them back together and i never know whats gotten in the top end .. if your going to split it true/ weld crank is a good idear as is just doing a complete trans inspection, and modify the stock trans if yours isnt done already.
