how do you remove the bushing in the idler gear?

Just use a socket that's about the same size as the bushing. Drive it out in a vice. Then press the new one in. It takes about 3 minutes to do it and then it's like brand new. I recommend replacing that bushing every year. For no more than it costs it's worth it when you consider the damage it can do if the clip and washer comes off because the gear has slop in it.

I agree with loco, but with the steel bushing you shouldn't have to replace it so often. If you run the stock one with the bronze bushing, I would replace it any time you have the clutch cover off. (within reason). They are cheap, and so are the washers and clips that hold it on.
