Loose power when lights are on

Recommended Posts

Well the 1997 banshee runs perfect when the lights are off

Once it gets dark, I turn the lights on and it starts running like poo poo

Almost even dies out....I'm assuming stator is going out?

? Is how to test or is it something else??

But then again...air filter was clogged pretty bad and I've had it run bad from a clogged filter before....just wanna try to cross my T and dot my I before I do this big ride Saturday! Thanks

do you have aftermarket light maybe drawing to much power from the stator? or maybe your stator is starting to get weak?

For starters, the lighting circuit and the ignition/CDI circuit are totally seperate in the stator, so the lights cant rob power from the ignition. However you might want to check all of your grounds are good and clean. If the additional load from the lights can't get a good ground they could keep the ignition from grounding properly. It's kind of like on a trailer the turn signals work OK by themselves, but when the taillights are on the lights do weird things because you don't have a good ground.
