Shee shakes like a SOB

Recommended Posts

It always shook since i bought it. Cant complain to much because after all its an 87... Someone please tell me what is wrong and what i need to make it stop. Plan on doing a 4 or 7 mill this winter but theres no way ill make it that fast until it doesnt shake. All my shocks are blown but that wont make it shake it will just make my nuts hurt when i hit a big bump. Swingarm bearing/bushing, axle bearing seem fine but idk? Any help is appreciated. Thanks ahead of time

You need to freshen up your swingarm bearings, front bushings, make sure your front ball joints are good. Also check to make sure all bolts are tight and your front camber is setup properly.

Best place to get swingarm bearings? I already have bushings for the j arms just didnt put them in yet. And my ball joints are like shot. I cant push the top of the front tire in like a half inch. Where should i get them too? Thanks

You can get swingarm bearings from any of the site sponsers. You should contact Tim Stellar for some new J-Arms with replacable ball joints. I dont think you can repair the stock ball joints once there shot.

you bike is shaking because of a number of things. 1) your b all joints are screwed. 2) your tie-rods are probably screwed too 3) your shocks are blown out 4) your bushing must be shot cause you have replacements.

personally i wouldn't even throw a leg over your bike the way it is right now. Not saying your bikes a piece or anything.....im just saying that when it comes to maintenance (on certain things such as the front end) i can get real particular when it comes to shakey bikes. Think about it........why in the hell would i want to even go anywhere NEAR 70......let alone 20... when you just admitted that your ball joints are toast. Think of the destruction that will happen if your going down a trail and a ball joint cuts loose. Hello oak tree. even if you were just testing and tuning in a subdivision.......shit....imagine droppin a ball joint and having that shit dig into the asphalt at 70.....hell you better have a decent helmet and damn good medical coverage.

But to be honest it just sounds like you need to spend a couple days checkin out your front end. flip the bike up on its grab bar and check all of your nuts and bolts, ball joints, tie rods, bushings......everything. The front end of a bike is not an area to rush while putting it together or while making repairs......too much can go wrong.

Proper maintenance and routine checks/adjustments go a long way. But remember, these are off-road tires that are NOT balanced....

Amen to that!

Still amazed that he asked the question knowing that the ball joints are shot, has replacement bushings for the arms, and knows the shocks are in need of service or replacement.

Well i dont have money for new arms. I put more air itn the tire and it kinda went away so i could use tires but it still shakes bad. Yeah it was never this bad so i figured i wont ride it till i fix it. Anyone have j arms or know a good easy way to do the a arm convertion? Yeah im not what you would call the smartest person i guess but hey i live in the middle of nowhere. Bewtween work and ridin thats all i do. Prolly not safe but i did it. Not anymore until its fixed though. Anybody with j arms or a good explanation of how to do an a arm conversion would be really helpfull.

As for an A arm conversion, can you weld? And I don't mean bird shit welding, you need to be able to do excellent welds on thin material. The reason I ask is the only way to do the conversion without welding is to buy an A arm frame and put all your parts on it. If you can weld, then google "Banshee A arm conversion" and you should be able to find the weld in kit to modify your frame to accept A arms. Or contact Stellar Machine(they are a site sponsor) or Dave Moore for some custom J arms.

Yeah i can weld pretty good. Ill look it up. The convertion holds up good though? And how much do a set of used arms go for now days? The weld wont be an issue though. The option of getting an a arm frame was an i dea of mine a while back but i havent really found one around here. The cost of the frame will be enough much less shipping. They are really fun toys but to keep them going good is spendy
