Tommilicious
I just purchased a 2001 banshee yesterday. I'm told it has a fresh top and bottom end with work done by a dealer. It's got a full t5 exhaust. It looks like there is a boost bottle on it too. The right exhaust is concerning me for 2 reasons. It smokes way more than the left side and the end of the pipe that sticks out rattles and spins around. Here's a video. Any advice or where to start is appreciated. I'm not sure what a banshee with Toomey 5 pipes is supposed to sound like. Does this seem normal or rough? Thanks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1IC2RwD51M Edited August 15, 2011 by Tommilicious

Tommilicious
It was drying. I had cleaned it out really good, haha. I adjusted the screws on top of the tors to be the same. It seems i'm in sync when hitting throttle just by eyeballing the carbs through the air box.
jonpeter0420
Check the plugs, you could have a bad oil seal causing crank oil to be pulled into your cylinder causing it to smoke like that

SheeManWomenHater
could the right carb be too rich?
Tommilicious
I just ordered the silencer repack kit from Toomey. I'm going to repack the silencers and see if that makes a difference. I'm not sure why that right side tip is so loose and spins like that. I'm hoping the packing is just shot. I'll also be taking apart the carbs and cleaning them. I've read lots of people had the crank seal problem but I don't want to get into that unless it's last resort. I was sort of hoping my video would give me a more sure answer but it seems like there could be a lot going on here. The banshee runs good and pulls strong in the meantime
Tommilicious
I just watched a bunch of youtube videos with banshees idling and revving with t5 pipes. It seems like everyone was smoking. Maybe mines not that bad? Does anyone have a link to a video of what the exhaust looks like with a for sure trans oil leak? Tommilicious
What is your mix ratio? I was told it has 32:1 klotz oil. I have a fresh can at home with 40:1 yamahlube 2r & 93 octane mix. If it was the gas, wouldn't both sides be smoking equally?
donkeypuncher
You mIght be missing the core in your right silencer causing the tip to spin...

No I meant crank oil I'm not confused I think you are. There is only one place to put oil correct. Aside from the premix I mean. If he has a bad oil seal he would be pulling oil into his cylinder this is NOT supposed to happen

If it was the gas, wouldn't both sides be smoking equally? Just wondering. If I had that banshee, I would: 1. Drain the existing gas... the bike obviously hasn't had much luv, so there is no reason to not assume that gas is old and stale as hell. 2. Pull the carbs, and clean them carefully, and one at a time. Check the jets and note what size they are. They are probably the ones that come with the toomey perfect jet kit. 3. Check your intake manifold boots for cracking. Go over the whole engine while you are at it, looking for things that don't look right. 4. Do a compression test. 5. Put the fresh 93 octane at about 36-40:1 in the tank. 5. Put fresh, correct gap spark plugs in. 6. Sync the carbs. Clean and lube and WD 40 everything on the bike while you are at it. Consider: When you are on the line with Toomey for the repack kit and the new muffler C Clips, maybe consider ordering new mid pipes (or if your on a budget sand and high temp rattle can those ugly suckers? Report back here... congrats, you just saved a Banshee from the IPO who didn't know how to luv/care for an awesome machine! Enjoy, and you can get lots of advise from some smart Banshee owners here. Possibly a little too much oil in the mix, and possibly a too big Idle jet, or a bit of both. See my above post, I think the bike just needs some luv.
