Jetting Help (Final attempt!)

300 is probably still to rich, but if it's running pretty good now I wouldn't risk blowing anything up. Wait until you can do a WOT plug check. No need for a plug chop. Once you determine if the main is rich or not, go from there. Don't even mess with the needle until the main is spot on.

Ya, I am going to try 290 today. I have heard from other people they were running 280 25 and 3 clip at 800 elevation. I think 280 was the best, but I don't think I will be able to run 25 pilots.

It is so damn hard to do this in my neighborhood, it sucks. I just bought a box of spark plugs. I put two fresh ones in. Flew up my street with WOT got to third gear and killed it. Pulled in my driveway took a plug out and it looked exactly the same as it did when I put it in. I went out and rode around my backyard for 15 minutes then flew up and down the street, all the people that were walking ran off the street and gave me nasty looks, got back to my house checked the plugs and it was still exactly like it looked before. I doubt it is because I am running too lean. I have 300 Mains Middle Needle Clip and 27.5 Pilot with 1.5 turns out.

The only thing I noticed was better response because the spark plug was new lol. Anyone have any ideas other than drive to the countryside?

Yeah I wouldn't want to be the a-hole flying down the street on an ATV in a residential area. there is nowhere you can put-put over to do a little riding I guess? I think guys with similar mods to you are running 290? You might just have to suck it up and take your plugs, jets and tools to where you can really ride it.

ya.. i am gonna go to my gfs this weekend, her neighborhood is a little more laid back. any idea why they kept coming off white? was i doing the plug check wrong? i pin it in 1st, when it tops off switch gears, all the way to 3rd, i pin it in 3rd and when it was about to top off i killed the engine and pulled in the clutch. i coasted down the street to my house, took the plugs off and they were white lol maybe a little darker if i compared to another unused one, but basically no change to the eye.

Are you looking at the base of the plug? Or just up by the electrode? You need to cut the threads off the plug to check the color and width of the "smoke ring" at the BASE of the plug.

I am checking both the strap and looking down to the base. Can you post a photo of how the smoke ring looks? From what I hear it is milk chocolate. I think I would notice a milk chocolate ring, unless it is very faint.

Plug chops are not necessary at all. In my 10 years of riding Banshees I have never done a plug chop. Save your money and your plugs.

I agree... but Im new so I don't have as much credibility. You just get a ballpark jet size from someone with a similar setup... then experiment up and down as necessary to get rid of the rough spots if it has any. Idle to 1/4 throttle is low speed jet, then full throttle is the main. If there are any midrange issues, clip the neddle a bit as necessary (if you can't get it 100% good with the main jet). Its really not that hard......this is my first time jetting a bike, and with the help of the internet and BHQ ist has been fun and easy. I still say get rid of the single carb setup if your budget allows for it.

If it helps... I'm at 5k feet asl. Cpi inframes, k&n no lid. Got a 270 main, needle one lean from center (towards blunt end) and stock pilots. I think it feels good.

Plug chop... Eh. Did it once when bike was new, u can tell by looking down just as good, no need to cut imo.

If they are brown when checked after wot, main is good. Needle and pilot go by feel.

Yea, i know what you mean. Just don't understand why I did a plug check and looked down and it was white. I am not running too lean. I just don't understand it. Someone told me today it could be a blown head gasket, but I think it runs fine, other than improper jetting.

Alright, so apparently my eyes are deceiving. I was fed up and decided to cut one of my spark plugs.. This is what it looked like after I did a plug check in 3rd gear. And then rode down my street and back (without killing the engine until after a complete stop. I know it isn't as good as a plug chop, but now that I know they aren't white I am willing to go again and do a regular plug chop. Here are the results:

Should I go again with the 300 mains in and do a regular plug check, or drop them. Let me know what you guys think
