headlight wiring w/o switch ?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys im looking for ideas on how to wire my banshee headlights straight to the mag if possible, i wired one hot for test purposes and blew the bulb.. b4 blowing the other side i would like some input on what im doing wrong and the correect way to go about it.

Yellow wire is lights from mag.

You will need a regulator to not blow lights.

It is a small square box under the seat with a blue wire.

does the regulator connect inline with the power, and does that regulator ground itself by bolting to frame? i have the reg but didnt have it during first test, which blew bulb, got the reg hooked it inline with power w/o it bolted to chassis and blew 2nd bulb... i have to get new bulbs now anyway but i would like to do it correct so i dont blow them again.

1. Why would you want to wire directly from the mag?

2. You need the regulator, fully installed, that's why it's there.

3. If your regulator is fully installed and you're still blowing bulbs you have an electrical problem and need a manual to track it down.

4. The easiest way to wire your lights to stay on all the time is to connect the wires that control the level, high or low beam, together. Done.

5. Get a manual, or search for a wiring diagram online, if you need to know which wire is which.

You need to have the regulator bolted to the frame as that is how it gets it's ground and completes the regulator circuit. You need to connect the yellow wire coming out of the stator to the yellow wire going to each headlight and also connect the blue wire of the regulator to this also. Leave the green wire from the headlights un hooked because the stator does not make enough power to run low beams AND high beams at the same time. If you are running a tail light, you will need to splice the blue wire from it into the yellows also. If it continues to blow bulbs when wired like this, then you have a bad regulator and it needs to be replaced.
