lubing bearings and tranny gears before install

Recommended Posts

That depends on how dry you are putting them in the crankcase. Sometimes ill do bottom ends where i dont even romove the tranny,or i remove and leave it wet,In those cases i wont add anything.

But if you have cleaned it out its just to easy not to do. It may only take a second to circulate oil,but it takes even less time to score the hell out of a bearing or gear or tranny shaft.

I would never put dry tranny parts or bearings or shifting parts in without some type of oil, even if its as simple as puttin a few drops of atf in a bearing and spinning it by hand. When metal is not lubricated it will score and dissapear fast!

i keep all my clusters and such oiled up with residue at all times, aside from cleaning, or any cutting, which is followed by cleaning and a little oiling, mostly to keep any rust from forming, but i don't clean the oil off, other than wiping up drips, or wiping off something that fell on them..... just whatever is going to run in the case.

royal purple assembly lube, they make two kinds one i use on bearing one i use on shafts and forks

why do you use two different ones? when you put in case oil the trans bearings, shafts, and forks share the same oil. I would just use the same oil(new) i run in the case to lube everything. On the crank bearings i would use premix oil but just a little bit don't get crazy with it. And after you have it all togher(with oil in) i would turn the motor over a few times befor starting it.
