Light Mod

Recommended Posts

I really want to upgrade my lights. With a set of stocks it seems like you're over driving your lights in second gear. It's terrible. I don't want to spend 300 dollars for a set if I don't have to. What are some of you guys running for really bright lights? I want something stupidly almost illegally bright. I don't ride at night a lot, but when I do, it'd sure be nice to see more then I can now. Also.. I can convert my stator to DC, but haven't really thought about running a battery. If it's a must, then maybe we can discuss that as well. I'd like to know what kind of options I have, and price ranges I'm looking at. Thanks.

There are a few options. I sell a 12" LED light that a couple people have used on ATV's with great results.

The light retails for $216.00, draws 60w (less than stock), and consists of (20) 3w LED's producing 3600 lumens of light.

LED's might not be your best option if you feel like you're outdriving your stock lights. Even the BEST LED technology has difficulty throwing the light a significant distance.

In my opinion, your best/cheapest option, is to do a DC conversion with a battery, and run an HID conversion in your stock lights. Tons of people have done it with awesome results.

You might want to try the PIAA or Tusk Super Brite bulbs. The tusk bulbs are about $10 a piece and the PIAAs run about $35 a piece. There should be a thread on here about them, use the search. If those are not good enough, then I would do DC conversion and go with a set of HIDs. As was said, LEDs don't seem to project much light, but they are great for marker lights.

I forgot about the PIAA bulbs. I ran them on my bike a few years ago, and they were awesome. Don't spend the money on the PIAA's though, the Tusks work just the same at less than 1/3 the cost.

I actually run LED's on my sand car in conjunction with HID's, because they put out a TON of light, but they just don't throw the light as far as HID's. It's all in reflector design. The deeper the reflector, the further the light is thrown. If you ride tight trails, LED's would be your best option, but the OP said he feels like he's outrunning his lights. The LED's will project the light as far as the stock lights, but it's just not as concentrated of a beam.

I run the Piaa H6M bulbs, yes they are expensive but work well especially for a drop in replacement. The Tusk or other knock off brands on ebay should work well too.

What head light housings are you running? Plastic or Glass?

well I kind of rolled the banshee. And I'm looking to replace the lights entirely. but I don't want to spend an arm and a leg either. lol the 4 mill plus all the bolt ons robbed my wally...

i had a set of lightforce spotties on mine, i changed the globes that came with them i think they were 55 watts. to the 30 so it didnt overload the electrics. i think from memory they were the light force 240. they blew everything away in the dunes. you could change them to pencil or spread beam , i will try to find some pics.

I ran the tusk bulbs this last time at the dunes and hated them... They are alot brighter than stock but are more of a spot light. They had a very narrow feild of view, If they were more of a flood it would of been better.. in my opinion.

Doesn't the shape of the housing cause the field of view, not the bulb?
