Screw 4 strokes
Just took a trip to Pismo this past week and after one of a runs at the drags my banshee became stuck in what i think is 3rd gear. I can move the shifter up and down but it becomes stuck up or down and doesn't shift gears. Stripped shift shaft is what i've read to most likely be the problem. Just wondering what else I'm about to tackle. Also, the stock clutch cover bolts with the phillips heads seem to be a little too tight for me to get off and i don't feel like stripping them. Any tips on getting those off? I will replace them with hex heads when I piece her back together. Thanks for future input.

The way I get stuck screws out is use a ratchet and put the screwdriver bit in the socket forget what size. put lots of pressure on the head and twist slowly if it starts to strip add some heat and do again. Works 90% of the time.

Rotax Raptor
Impact driver for sure on the bolts. There is a stud that screws into your case that the shift mechanism slides over that sometimes will break. It has a 17mm jam nut and a standard screw head on the stud. Check that. If that's broken the lever will move but not catch on the drum star.
camatv
impact driver costs about 10-20 bucks for a good one. you will need to replace the shift shaft, the spring, the alignment pin, and the lockwasher for the pin clutch cover gasket and 2 qts of motorcycle or atv specific oil.. if you just flop it back in place it WILL turn sideways again.. Screw 4 strokes
Okay so i got the clutch cover and clutch off and everything looks fine. Nothing looks worn or stripped. I noticed that the shifter shaft was just a little too the side of the shift star, but when i slid it back over all of the gears would engage except for first gear. It will get stuck between neutral and first. Anybody have any ideas?

If the claw was off to the side of the pins on the shift star, then you need a new shift shaft as the pivot for the claw has gotten worn/loose and needs to be replaced- it will continue to do it until you do. A Banshee tranny needs to be spinning when you shift in order for the dogs on the gears to mesh and engage.
okbeast
Last time I put mine together it wouldn't go completely into 1st gear either. Once it was all back together though and rolling around the driveway it was fine.
