bambam7689
Hey all so first off im brand new to the site my name is erick. So i just bought an 01 banshee yesterday, never road one before although i have been on dirtbikes and i have a gsxr 750 street bike. Ive been watching videos on youtube and i knew i needed a banshee lol.. when i was picking it up yesterday i test road it for the first time, it has some mods done to it.. a jettkit , its bored 30 over and cpi pipes. so i get on it and punch it in first gear and when this thing hit power band it almost backflipped me ... so i kick it in second .. same thing it almost through me off and same thing in third... i never got it in to 4th as there was not enough room... im assuming the pistons are in pretty decent shape because that power band kicks in like a monster and on my dirt bikes it pretty much had no powerband when the pistons fried. now i dont know much about engines so i kick started it again when i got home and let it idle and it idled nice.. but now i ask what should i look out for? how will i know when my carbs need cleaning, how will i know if my pistons are going other then there is no more powerband or is that the only way? and also could some one tell me the oil and gas mixture i need to use, and is there anything else i need to check out to make sure that the bike is running right and the way it should. Thanks alot guys..

Thanks alot guys.. You will be able tell you need a top end job by the compression- when it gets below 110 psi, it is time for a rebuild. I recomend using Klotz R50 oil mixed with premium gas at 40:1. I also recomend Klotz Flex Drive 30(part number KL506) in the tranny. Get yourself a service manual and read it, also start reading the technical info and pinned threads on this website and you will get a better idea of what is going on with your Banshee and the things you need to look for, and what maintenance and repairs need to be done and when to do it. X2 on checking the compression. I also have great luck with Klotz R-50 at 40:1, and Klotz Flexdrive in the tranny.

Larry's Shee
Welcome !! BUY A CLYMERS MANUAL !! As to when to clean carbs, any time it doesn't run right. Clean them one at a time as they're different. Clean fuel petcock and tank at same time. BUY A CLYMERS MANUAL !! Not only read the pinned/stickies , read and follow threads about jetting, repairs, etc. You will learn things that aren't even in the manual. which do you think is more of a hoot, Gixxer or Banshee? dicedealer702
You need Gear box fluid not "oil" . it takes one and a half bottles. The oil is in the gas
Larry's Shee
Long as it is rated for "wet" clutches it should be fine. On the side of the clutch cover there is a marking like 2300cc, that's amount it takes. You should be fine on choice of pre-mix oil and ratio. 06BCBANSHEE
I would just use 10w30 motor oil like the manuel says. It works fine. Change it often. Every 2 or 3 rides. Just dont see the point of paying over ten bucks for a quart of klotz flex drive. If you change it often you should be fine. It takes 1.5L of oil. The reason I went to the Flex Drive is it makes the bike shift so much better, but I have never lost a bearing, gear, shift fork, or had a clutch ball weld(no pancake bearings) on me in my 3 Banshees, or the 3 or 4 others of my friends that use it. Haven't had any cluych problems either and everything looks like new when I open it up. Oil is cheaper than parts and easier than walking or towing back to camp. 06BCBANSHEE
How often do you have to change the flex drive? That shit is abiut $15 a quart around here. Dont see it being that much better, as long as you change it often. We will see how long my clutch and tranny lasts. It shifts great nice and smooth still with no problems
