locogato11283
Gary and I have been talking a while about doing a Sniper In-frame DM pipe. Last week he sent me a set of big flange Snipers to try out on my 18mm DM that had been run on a 4mm DM with Lectrons. He sent me the pipes and a set of stingers and told me to modify them in any way I needed to make them work because he knows that I had to extensively modify my Shearers to make them fit around my carbs and frame rails. First thing I noticed when taking the pipes out of the box is the quality and finish of them. They were bare finish, but I'm glad because you can really see the quality of the welds that goes into these pipes. I have never seen that kind of quality out of any other pipe I've run. The bends on the stinger tubes were really nice and not creased in any way. The bottom line ended up being that the Snipers would need to much modification for me to get them to fit. I really didn't want to risk destroying the integrity and performance of the pipe by hacking them up. I was definitely disappointed because I really wanted to give them a shot. I sent Gary pictures of where the pipes would need modified to fit around the frame and around the 39mm PWKs. We talked on the phone for a while about it and was pretty confident that Gary will come up with something for the bigger DM's with different carbs. I have been dealing with Gary since last year when he first started posting about the Snipers on BansheeHQ and have no doubts that these are great pipes. If I was running a smaller motor, they would be my first choice due to quality, dyno charted performance and customer service I've received from Gary. If you guys are looking for some nice pipes that will perform, shoot Gary a message and see what he can do for you. Tyler
dajogejr
I second the fit and quality of his pipes 100%. Damn shame my motor popped one run into my test with his drag pipes. I would love to get mine polished then powder coated high temp. My only complaint would be to have to wipe them down with WD 40 after the wash.... J-Madd
I can't find my post about the Snipers, so I'll post this here. I got to run them Saturday. On my 3rd pass I dropped a tooth in the back because I'm running about an inch less roll out than before. I ran a 3.84@82 mph at a track where my best time was a 3.83@80 mph. The air density was bad, and it was during the day. I rarely hit mid 3.8s in the daytime. From my math, these pipes are revving out to 9400 rpms on my 10 MIl Cub, whereas the dyno showed the SB Shearers to peak at 9600 rpms. The snipers don't (by the seat of the pants) have a lot of overrev. When they stop pulling that's it. But they feel like there is a broad curve and power that comes on quick. I think I could run even higher gearing. Hell I think they would pull me 85+ mph in 300 ft. Not sure the e.t would be better if I did that, though. I'm running 16/44 with 75 roll out staggered extremes and it never thought about trying to bog (I weigh 182-185 lbs). I'm ready to get this bike on a good hooking track, in good air. This was only a test and tune session and the track didn't get watered much.
