RadarRacing
I'm surprised the toomey clutch didnt hold with stiff springs. Shows the servl is a badass setup. lol I think the FAST clutch or the one Andy at M/M sells should hold up to a serval no problem but I really like the Gigot Slingshot it will make even a cheap clutch hold up to a lotta HP and I dont think you'll notice any difference from the weight. Its a pretty light billet plate, stainless plate and on a normal (under 100 hp) motor you can run single balls in it. They make a clutch last a very long time. robert.b.west
I actually got the lockup from vitos. It is a driveline. I did not want to buy a new cover. Is this the same as a slingshot just a different brand? Any way how many balls is everyone running. The instructions recomend 2 balls per short slot. None in the long ones for a total of 36 balls. Does this sound like a good starting point? I can go all the way up to 60 but that is recomended for a 10 mill and all the way down to 2. Snopczynski
Shane has a slingshot, but Jeff at Fast advised him to try it without the slingshot first. So far no slipping.
RagunCajun
I actually got the lockup from vitos. I have the vito's one as well. I use more balls than it recommends. I figure a little more rotational mes is better than slipping. It made my old worn out slipping like crazy clutch never slip again. Just try it out, if it slips too much, add more. For drag racers who bite HARD off the line, they can tune it to slip just the right amount. Edited April 9, 2011 by RagunCajun
rubberneck
I ran jeffs (FAST) clutch on a 421 cub in my dune bike with 6 HD springs and no lock up for a while and had zero problems with it. I put about 60 gallons of gas through it before i yanked the cub out and then ran it on a 4 mill dune port for 2 trips to the dunes. Just looked at it the other day and it still looks new. 6 HD springs really isnt that stiff if you have a new clutch cable and lube it every trip out. At high HP these things can be so finicky to shift anyway even with lots of mods to the trans and such, i would think a lockup would just make that worse. camatv
a good clutch with heavy springs should hold fine. bet your adjustment was off or your cable is messed up. they need a lil slack at ALL times and the arrows have to line up or it will hold the clutch out. i see thiss problem all the time
robert.b.west
Adjustment was good. Arrow is lined up and I always leave a little slack so there is no pretension in the cable.
robert.b.west
The lockout worked great. I love this motor. It is a great dune motor. Turns out I must have an air leak somewhere. I burnt up my right piston. I did a leak down test when assembling and it was good. I also have rode it two previous weekends and all day saturday before it happened. I am wondering if I ripped an intake boot. I pulled out the plugs and the one was a beautiful chocolate. The other was white The cylinder wall seems to be ok. I am going to pull it apart tonight and inspect further. I will post pictures of the carnage.
frog
Install the lock-up and never worry about it again not to mention you can enjoy the easy pull on the clutch.I'll never understand why people spending the money on a serval set up don't just spend the extra couple of bucks on the lock-up. PIECE OF MIND!
