hard to start banshee

Recommended Posts

ok, so, i just got a brand new motor in my banshee, and it started right up....welll....after about 20-30 kicks , and i broke it according to how i found on here, now it still takes just as many kicks to start it, unless im lucky itl start about after 10 kicks....so any ideas on why its si hard to start?

one of the most common problems is jetting issues. have you modified the motor with any new parts or new port jobs? That will affect jetting and could cause a hard start if you don't replace the jets with larger ones.

The other common problem is the choke tube. The tube is a little black rubber tube that goes between the carbs and is what is used to engage the choke on the right side carb... if its missing you MIGHT be able to get it to start and run but it's gonna be a while before it starts....

well.....its either your vitos internals (some have had good luck...but alot have had bad luck) or it could be too small of a pilot jet in your carbs....

pull your carbs apart and look and make sure the correct slides are in the correct carbs......and that the right bowls are on the right carbs.

AND check to see what size your pilot is......most aftermarket pipes like to have (some need to have) extra fuel way down low so you have to jump your pilots to a 27.5

it has toomey* pipes with stock silencers? why i dont know, boyesen 2 stage reeds, all vitos internals, and the carb is jetted to 250 main and im not sure which pilot is in it

Which Toomeys,T3,T4,T5,T6? Usually Toomeys require a mainjet in the 280-320 area and possibly a 27.5 pilot, depending on your mods. Make sure the carbs are clean, the bowls are on the correct carb, the slides are in the correct carb, and the choke tube is in place.

everything is correct, il try messing with different jets, and its the t5 pipes

Unless your altitude is high, you're definitely gonna need 27.5 pilots. If you're altitude is under 1500ft, we have pretty similar set ups so you might want to start with that (in my sig) and do a few plug chops to dial it in.

and also, how do i get more....im not sure how to put it, when i kick my banshee it only turns over once, shouldnt it be turning over more than that? if so, how can i make it do it? the nerf bars i have on it restrict it from kicking all the way i think

Yeah, the pilots will be printed on the side with the size. You might want to get yourself a Clymer's Manual - it'll be the best $30 you'll ever spend and it's a good place to keep your notes on whatever mods you decide to do ;) As for the throw on the kick starter, you can take it off at the splined shaft and rotate it a notch forward. You'll get a little more that way but the throw on the Banshee is short.

alright thanks man, il take the carbs apart tomarrow after school, but i cant like....cut the part of the nerf bar that mounts it to the frame? to give it a little more throw

I can't comment on your nerfs since I don't know what they look like. But if the kick start pedal is hitting them when you try to start her up, then something needs to be done. Adjust the pedal as far forward as you can first (there will be a limit to how far forward it'll go) and see if it still hits the nerf bar.
