porting my shee

Recommended Posts

I may have asked the wrong Question. I dont have any measurements pre teardown. I was thinking of how much to raise and widen the exhaust port and which way to go on the intake. All this is aimed toward a broad powerband, low and midrange... I do alot of woods riding and wand my quad "PISSED OFF!"

If you have to ask, DON'T DO IT.

This is my third banshee and i am fully aware of what i am getting into, i have a stedy hand and if i do make a mistake its not the end of the world. I have the money for new cylinders or a big bore kit

leave the intakes alone.....and u want from top of cyl to middle top of exhaust to be 26mm.......and the transfers 26.9mm

Thanks for the input man!! There is a lot of ppl here who think it takes an act of god to be able to port... Not saying its a easy task dont get me wrong but everyone who does it did it for the first time too!!

Haha, yea if you took Skeeter's post seriously and just carved the cylinders out to those specs. You might as well throw them out now and save yourself some time. Its obvious without even degreeing the ports out that you would have a negative blowdown number! No one says it takes a god to port cylinders. But I doubt any of the pros started by starting a post in a forum. Those guys spent countless hours schooling themselves, working side by side with knowledgeable engine builders gaining their experience, testing and data logging junk cylinders, and years of experience to do what they do. This isn't a V8 cast iron head where you can gasket match, open the bowls, work the short side radius back, and blend the runners and come out with some decent cheap gains. If you have the money for new cylinders, I suggest you send your cylinders off to a sponsor. The money you've just saved can be put toward other parts. You can examine what they did to the cylinder and learn a little. With enough research and patience, you can try a pair of cylinders of your own. If you are unsatisfied, swap back to the know-to-be-good ones and try again.

I hear ya, Im all game for supporting the sponsers. And im not dumb enough to just run off and start hoggin away off what someone i dont know told me without serious thought. Its not like I have no clue whats going oninside a motor. But a little input from others (Honest if possible) is always useful... By the way I used to work for Pat Hauck

Who cares if you worked for pat hauck. Did you do his port work? Hauck's port work sucks bad. You pay a lot for just a little cleanup. I have a big bore srx top end that they did and the port work is horrible. The roofs of the ports aren't even flat on the transfers. They are all wavy and uneven. Not to mention haucks workers are idiots and never know what to tell ya on the phone, if you call and ask a question about one of their products. And please don't get me started on their clutch kits.....ugh. Anyhow, why don't you ask pat hauck on what he suggests for port work? There are suppose to be your number 1 shop for yamaha performance.
