Stock Case w/ stroker crank Question

Recommended Posts

Im new to the banshee world but not new to 2 strokes or toys for that matter. ive been reading the forums and useing the searchbox to soak up as much info as possible But, what is the most mm you can run on a stroker crank before you have to have case work done? i have read 4 mill is safe but i see 5 millls on fleabay as well (and for somereason slightly cheaper). just got a stock banshee that needs some waking up before its dune worthy.

Im looking to put together a fairly fast banshee without breaking the bank (1000-2000) so I can do some climbing on Choke Cherry at st anthony's and can keep up with my cr500.

+7mm and bigger you need case work, +4mm willl bolt straight in, ( if you are unlucky, you may have to clearance the case near the deck for the rods to swing, but most drop in)

lots of cranks around, look at the sponsors on here, they have good prices and good parts, and they will help you out.

are you going to port your engine as well ? porting is awesome.

if your bike is stock, id just get your cylinders ported, that will make much much more difference than to have a stock port 4mm stroker.

keep up with a cr500 ? im guessing a cr500 would be around the 50hp mark on a bike thats half the weight of your quad. youll need a nice ported 4mm to keep up.

You definetely NEED to port it, but if it is ported for a stock stroke you may not be able to report it for a 4 mil later. If you are going 4 mil, you will need a crank, 795 series pistons, a coolhead with stroker domes and probably some bigger carbs. This assumes that you already have pipes. You will also want to bump the timing, but you can mod the stock plate to achieve this. Then there is shift mods, a billet impeller to keep it cool, a heavier clutch(at least heavier springs) and the list goes on forever.

You can build a pretty strong bike by adding pipes, cutting and chambering the stock head, getting the cylinders and reed cages ported, installing Boyesen reeds, boring the stock carbs to 28mm, welding the stock crank, adding 3 Toomey springs to the clutch, modding the shift star and timing plate, and adding a +4 swingarm. This would be within your budget and will fly right up Choke Cherry Hill. All of this assumes that your stock crank and clutch are in good shape, and you get a deal on a swingarm or have your stocker lengthened($150 exchange at Cascade).

just so ya know, it will be ported and piped, bigger carbs. i just didnt want to ramble on about the build. i am new to banshees and had no idea about what stock cases can accept. i will get a new head rechambered to run as high of compression as i can off of 91 or 100ll. havent decided yet. (local airport makes 100octane cheap)

and yeah i think a stock 500 dynos around 58-59rwhp. honda claims way more, but i have a top end pipe, and its an arm ripper. needs a bigger carb as well. 41mm pwk is on the next paycheck.

thanks for the info.

another question is what pipe do you guys like for a 4-6 mill stroker? preferably top end pipe. i have been searching and pipes have been beat to death just as any other forum. but the only info i get is for cub or serval strokers.

A 4 mil stock cylinder is very inexpensive and will really fly up choke, I was clocked at 44 mph up choke last labor day, and I weigh 210 lbs.

Or you could skip the cost of porting (since your on a budget) and follow the build listed in this post in the dyno section here.

http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=130851&st=0

We've got a bike built like this and if you follow the mods in the listed dyno runs, you will see great results for lower prices than paying for porting. Our motor however has a 4mill crank so it's a 385 instead of the 350 in the dyno example. We have ported the motor since last year and expect to see even better results this season. (He'll be at the Banshee HQ ride an the Badlands April 9th) The Vito's Super Stock pistons make the motor think it's been ported by making the motor act like it's had the exhaust raised 1.5 mm. We ran the motor with everything in the parts list except the V-force reeds and the 28mm carbs last year and it ripped. This year it was fully ported (Except the exhaust port roof was left alone because we stuck with the Vito's Super Stock pistons and the stock exhaust port shape on the top of the port is real safe for rings) Plus we're running the V-Force reeds in it now. We'll dyno that combo before switching from the stock carbs to the 28's.
