bigblockbanshee
Just curious, has anyone ever had problems getting their compression tester hose to thread into the domes? First of all these are brand new domes so I'd hesitate to think that the threads are dirty. Anyway I've got a Craftsman compression test kit with about 8 different hoses. The correct thread that fits the stock head and matches the threads of the plugs will not thread into the cool head domes. I've tried 3 different sets of domes and none of them work. I'm assuming the threads in the cool head domes are a different tolerance but this is just pissing me off really because I'd like to get a baseline compression number to work from in case my bike starts running weird. I feel like > <, every time I make a step forward it seems I make two steps back. Typical I guess.
THE358BANSH
Pretty sure the thread is m14x1.25 and the reach is .75" on the tester to double check. Is the tank on? I know with my SnapOn tester, it's a pain to thread it in with the tank bolted down...
bigblockbanshee
The tank was off. I don't think I'd try it with the tank on as easy as it is to just drain the fuel, remove tank and radiator plastics, and remove the tank itself. Either way I'm sure it's the correct thread because it threads into my spare stock head just fine, different story on the cook head domes though. I guess I'll try to borrow another tester and see what happens but I'm pretty sure the issue is in the difference in thread tolerances. bigblockbanshee
I've also tried WD-40, Aero Kroil, regular engine oil, assembly lube, moly additive, and anti-sieze to try to lube the threads to no avail.
Judge1
I have a cool head and I ran into a similar problem. The gauge would not thread all the way in and I did not want to force it. I tried getting a reading on a new motor just to get a starting number as a gauge. I only got like 115 120 and noticed it was getting blow by so I called my builder. He said if it is not a snap on tester it is crap and don't worry I was at 160 psi.
Jereme6655
stupid question.....but have the spark plugs been threaded into the cool head yet? Just a question as im wondering if the cool head dome are cut way off to what they are supposed to be or if maybe somehow you managed to get a bad set of threaded plugs.... bigblockbanshee
Spark plugs fit fine.
okbeast
I had some pro-design domes that were hell running plugs into. Always ran rough. Compression gauge was the same way. at the guy who worships snap-on
