Yamahabansheebros
Last time i went to the dunes i saw alot of people using normal tires... What is the difference from using dirt tires at the dunes and using mowhawks or razors?
joetechford
Last time i went to the dunes i saw alot of people using normal tires... What is the difference from using dirt tires at the dunes and using mowhawks or razors? man dude there is soooo many theories on that one.... lets see my opinion is that normal tires blow ass first off... they throw way too much sand in your face... second mohawks or that kind of tire are great for a dunner who weaves in and out... who plays alot..... then there is the smooth buff for the straight liner kinda guy who doenst need to turn a whole lot... this is my rule of thumb for choosing a front... but the normal tires on sand is for the person who cant afford anything else and if they say they are the "shit" then they are in denial. jbooker82
The smooth tires float on the sand better than dirt knobbies. They also turn better because the fin is like a boat rutter.

Or the knobbies just turn better because they are dug so deep into the sand. (Robbing speed and power) Buffed light tires are always the best in sand. I've ridden with knobbies.....I'm old enough and wise enough to know that sand tires are the only way to go. (Unless you ride where there is occasionally rock hard packed clay like sand.) jasons
Sand is to ATV's as air is to a plane and water to a boat. It all works the same. So, create a bigger tire and more footprint and you get more floatation. Sand moves away when you push off it and it moves around when you apply pressure to it. So, it follows that a front sand tire should turn through an unstable medium, like sand, just as rudders do on planes and boats.
