Cub or Serval

Recommended Posts

I ride 95% at the dunes where we drag race a lot. (Mainly for fun, nothing organized) It probably make up 50% of the time we are at the dunes. The other 5% of my riding would be in the winter where I have been getting in to ice racing. Right now I have a dune ported stock stroke banshee. (The rest of my mods are in my sig) At the dunes/drags I could use a lot more power. My question is will a serval be enough? Will the cub not be good for the duning and only the drags? I just dont want to buy the serval and wish I had just a little bit more. I will be ordering one of these in the next two weeks.

On a side note are my 33mm pwk's enough for either of these motors? and would I be a lot happier with a different pipe like a cpi?

Any input is appreciated

I think a 4mil serval would be the best mix for ya. The serval has a more user friendly power band than the cub does. I'd ditch the t5s and start hunting for a set of original Rockets. CPIs would be my next pick for the type of riding you plan on doing. Or maybe try a set of the new sniper pipes. I haven't heard much rider feed back on them yet, but I think thats because they are still new to the market.

Well one thing is for sure, they are both going to be a lot more power than what you have now. I think the T5's will choke you up some on the bigger motor. I personally do not know anyone that dunes a 421, but I have seen people that do. So maybe someone can chime in. It is a proven reliable drag motor.

The Serval is no joke when it comes to HP, but it is not a drag motor. Like BBC said, not much feed back yet. But the Dyno sheets look bad ass. As far as drags go, looks like it will be a good match up with some stock 4mil alky bikes, or some stock stroke PV cheetahs. However, the Serval is more about a usable power delivery not just WFO. I know when in the sand, I dune 100% of the time, so the Serval would be for me. But Since it is also fast as hell, I would start to get into drags....... and that would probably lead to building a bigger motor. lol fuckin addiction.

The serval can be ported into a cubs port timings for $300 and it costs about $100 less so you'd be safe if you wanted to drag only later. IMO if I were duning even 5% of the time I'd absolutely get a serval. A lot of people dont realize that the extra torque of the serval will make up for a few less HP at the strip. Nate McCoy did tons of pipe, dome , carb and porting tests on the dyno with the serval and they make good HP even with smaller carbs and he usually doesnt like inframe CPIs as much as shearers but he got the most torque with CPIs. He did say that T5s were "absolute garbage" on the serval, it did not like T5s at all which is surprising. Torque and HP was down quite a bit and surprisingly what we call DRAG pipes made the most useable power. As far as the 33mm carbs I'd keep em but ditch the T5s. Stock carbs on the 421cc serval and made 84hp If I remember right. Thats a pretty stout motor for stock carbs. LOL

I'm doing a Serval build soon but I'm using R-2s instead of the other popular pipe choices I tested a set of my buddies CPIs versus my R-2 on my bike and the R-2s come on just as soon as CPIs but rev out longer just my 2cents something to think about and its nice to have something different then the rest of the pack
