Electrical connector differences over the years...

Recommended Posts

Maybe it's been asked before, if it has I apologize as I did a search but didn't find anything. Just post up a link to what I need if you don't care. Anyway to give a quick rundown here's what I'm dealing with... I have a '97 stator, CDI, regulator, kill switch/headlight switch, and key switch. My harness is for the later models, don't know the years exactly but I know it fits the '06 connectors. My dilemma is that I don't know exactly how far this harness goes back until I'm gonna be running into problems with my connectors. Will everything work or am I gonna have to find different components? Sorry if this sounds sketchy, I don't have the harness available at the moment or I'd just look at the connectors.

The harnesses break down as follows: 87-94, 95-96, 97-01, 02-06(USA). I believe the 97-01 and 02-06 harnesses use the same style connectors, but the tailight connnector is different as they added the brake light in 02. The 02 up harness will have extra wires for the brake light and the swithes for it, but the CDI,stator and switches should all plug into it. If you are running the small tail light you can change the connector to match and you should be good.
