I was going to get my chrome CPI's done but decided not too, but the shop I talked to said they could do it.

jbooker82
Is the chrome in good shape? I would do the first 6-8 inches in a high temp powder. Then do the rest in a translucent black. Black Chrome pipes would be sweet. I just don't think the translucent black would hold up around the exhaust port. Btw. I think they would notice the sound before they would notice the color. 400sbc
yah sound may be a problem but at least don't have chrome but a black finish will help!!! thanks for help
hnb
before you try and get them powdered -- why not paint them black with high temp ceramic engine enamel paint --- that way if you still have a problem you can at least soak them in paint thinner and not hurt the chrome when you remove the paint -- if your theory works and you don't get bothered by the cops then get them powered -- they have to etch the metal first to help the powder stick and this would remove the paint before they are powered --- the shop I work in gets painted things powered when ready for final stage of finish -- a lot harder to go back from powdered to original
Jereme6655
go to a hardware store and go to the spray paint section. Then look for the Hi-temp black BBQ paint. my buddy and i used this on his FMF Fatties because his pipers were seriously in the hurt-locker when it came to looks. The paints been on there for 2 years now and still looks good....we just had to scuff them up a bit with sandpapers.
locogato11283
There is a high temp black that can be used. It is a flat black. It works well.
400sbc
excellent idea for the high temp paints and it by far less expensive than powder coat. thanks for idea, i will do that instead of powder. Those cops you know they dont bother with sound cause they dont carry the sound tester on them often, but one thing is sure is that as soon has they see chrome they automaticcaly know that they are not stock...
