KarTek Posted May 20, 2013 Report Posted May 20, 2013 This CDI unit Im running has a 12v saw tooth wave output. Any coil recommendations? I've been looking at a Cavalier twin output coil. Quote
KarTek Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 I've converted over to a full DC based CDI and added a regulator and battery so now, I suspect that the stock coil is fine but it's designed to work with a higher AC voltage and it's not working great with 12 VDC. The spark is almost invisible and the engine won't rev above around 2000 RPM. I can get DC coils for $10 so I might just try that. I'm trying not to mess up this thread with a lot of talk about ignition and coils so I posted a specific question in the other forum. Thanks for the input. Quote
Coupelx Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 Why would you replace an almost bulletproof system? Quote
KarTek Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 Digital control of the ignition. My question was answered so I won't pollute this thread any more. Thanks! Quote
So Cal Suspension Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 Your DC Conversion and regulator should be isolated from your ignition. If you are running your CDI and coil off of your battery, you've done it all wrong. The DC Conversion is meant to ONLY isolate the lighting circuit, and rectify it to DC Current. Quote
