larry has a good question. Was it freshly bored? looking at the port on the upper right side of your picture it looks like there are chunks taken out of your cylinder. It does look like your ring may have snagged the middle port and folded itself a little and then wore that pattern into your cylinder. If this was a fresh bore who assembled it? it does look like the chamfer may be a little shady...

Either you were beating on the engine before it reached operating temp or the piston briefly overheated and expanded too much.

I usually check to make sure the bore is still in spec,as long as there is no transition,i would just re-ring and take some fine oiled emery paper and "lightly" rub it out. What you see on the cylinder is from the piston, buts its more like a glaze.

Are you running cast pistons or forged? The wear marks you see can be caused by a few things... Improper chamfer on the ports, not letting the engine reach operating temp before you take off and start beating on it. The pistons expand at a different rate than the stock iron sleeves. The piston will absorb heat faster than cylinder and it will expand faster. If you don't let the entire engine reach temp before you take off the piston can wear on the cylinder walls in odd patterns.
