700vflash
Well I just got my shee back together and it is running strong. It has basic mods and used Motul 10w-30 for tranny fluid (it was recommended), clutch pads looked good. At peak power it feels like the clutch is slipping. Could the fluid be causing the slipping? Could the fluid be causing the slipping? what all do you have done to the engine? might be time for a lock up.... and I prefer the maxima mtl 80w in my play bike, and atf type f in my drag bike with the over ride trans..... 700vflash
Bored 2mm over, +4 on the timing, trail port, stock head milled .030 over, T5 exhaust, 2 into 1 intake with 38mm carb and a welded crank.
badassbanshee479
what clutch kit are you running right now?
Coupelx
running standard 10w30 will make the clutch slip. drain it, flush it out with Type F automatic transmission fluid and then refill with Type F. the cheap shit. no synthetic. change it every couple rides. badassbanshee479
I dont recommend running type f trans fluid in a bike that is not strictly a drag bike... it is pretty thin and it breaks down quickly.... better off runnin somethin thicker....just make sure its designed for the shee trans.... regular engine oils have friction modifiers in them that will cause the shee clutch to slip..... 700vflash
I would have to say that the clutch is stock, one of the few things I haven't replaced yet. So maybe try the 80w fluid for the tranny?
Coupelx
hmm, i guess i must have a uber special transmission that doesnt wear because its sitting on the bench looking pretty right now! there are ALOT of people using atf. it works fine. do a search on it even. i will agree that it breaks down faster. but at a couple bucks a bottle i will change it more since clutch life has doubled for me. badassbanshee479
I would say its time to upgrade your clutch..... the stock shee clutch was designed for 35hp... your a ways over that..... coupelx I didnt say you cant run it.... I just said I dont recommend it... I like the added protection of the thicker oil in a bike that I am out beating the snot out of bike threw everything I can throw at it..... gotta_goatsfast
I'll never use ATF again. Last year I threw in a new clutch and tried out the ATF. At the end of a hard 9 hour ride the fluid reeked from being burnt. The clutch wouldn't hold until I replaced the fluid.
700vflash
I have heard of many different fluids for the banshee tranny. I would assume the clutch pads are the same for a 2stroke and 4stroke clutch.
camatv
any motorcycle specific oil will work dont run automotive oils in it at all. you DEFF need to replace the clutch. its slipping on top due to lack of holding power the stock springs wear out and the clutch is crap in them oem.
