SuperMex
I'm going to buy myself a Serval in the next 6 months or so and have was quite a bit about this just curious what your ideas for a perfect setup would be.
gotta_goatsfast
I too am currently building a 68x58 serval. To compliment my build, I'm assembling the engine with... HotRods 58mm crank with 115mm rods (TZ bearing and full C-clip) CPI pipes (I'll explain why later) 35mm PWK carbs-168 main, 52 pilot, CEL needle middle clip is how I have them set up for first fire Pro-Design head with 22cc domes for pump fuel Timing advanced 4 degrees Magnum clutch basket with FAST clutch and light springs DD lock out Stock trans with easy spring and modified shift shaft/shift star from FAST Getting back to my pipe selection. It seems as though the mainstream pipes such as Pro-circuits, FMFs and T5s lack the ability to support the flow of a well-designed 421. I've seen dyno charts of CPIs and Shearers pulling sooner than T5s and FMFs, whild destroying them on top. As for the rest of the bike, I've already installed +2+1 arms with PEPs triple rate shocks w/rezzies on the front. The brakes are off of a YFZ450. For the rear, I've purchased a +2 roundhouse swinger and +4 axle. For my riding style, I still depend on tight turns and hit jumps and water breaks so I need to be conservative with the length of my swingarm. The rear shock will be sent to MattSCESC so that he can tailor it to the swingarm and riding style. Now, what type of riding do you do? While this set up is going to kick ass for me, it might be all wrong for you.
SuperMex
4mil Serval w/ all the stuff in my sig not sure on the carb choice yet. I ride sand only and although I do shoot the hill with my family and friends i'm by no means a drag type guy thats why I have chosen the serval. Originally I was going to do a dune port 4mil but then this cylinder came along and everyone seems to be fired up on it especially the builders on here so thats the direction i'm going in. As far as riding style I ride in Glamis and pretty much do a lil bit of everything.
Fastassbanshee96
I'm also building one as we speak. I'm running the 4mil long rod with serval cylinder and 22cc domes and 35mm air strikers. Fast clutch setup with billet basket and heavy duty springs and all his shift mods he offers. As for pipe I will be running R2s. I just love the way they look and should let this motor breath pretty good. As for suspension I am doing the complete 450 conversion. I'll be running a plus 6 swingarm becaus that's what I have right now. As for riding, I do pretty much trails but ride a little bit of everything. gotta_goatsfast
Your half way there! Sell the top-end and 28mm carbs on here to recoup some of the funds to build (or have built) a 421 serval.

Fastassbanshee96
Yeah I actually got the call today from Jeff saying my motor is done. I can't wait till spring to see what this thing can do. I'm tempted to put it in now but I don't want to break it in in the winter.

BigRed350x
I'd do it with a smaller carb... anywhere from a 28 to 33 keihin would be my personal preference. Probably T5's or Pro Circuit pipes. Higher compression and a little timing advance would top it off nicely.
dirtydownunder
small carbs and mid pipes, fail miserably on the servals, and high comp and high timing also dont work well. you just built the worst serval ever, like mine

I'm getting ready to start putting mine together. The motor is built but as far as tge carbs pipes and everything I'm still working on that. SuperMex
I'm thinking a set of 33mm keihins is what i'm going with and some R-2's with the timing at +4 not sure on my compression yet
dirtydownunder
from what ive read, any of the top end pipes worked well, the CPI did really good with a bit of a better midrange curve than the shearer, but the shearer made a few more hp and pulled longer. they all put the T5 to shame. (low rpm as well) i dont know how the rockets would go, if the cpi did well, i guess the rocket will do too. i reckon 33's as a minimum. build em for pump, they seem to like that and not to much timing advance. it will be good when all of these servals are out and about, so we can see what setups work well. SuperMex
Yeah I started this thread to pick some brains on whats working since these cylinders are so new. As time goes we can all start to figure what works best for different riding areas, styles etc... I was thinking the 33s to keep the bottom and mid as strong as possible im no drag racer so the smaller carbs I think will be best for me and what I need them to do. I ride in Glamis and I pretty much do a lil of everything so that bottom and mid is my bread and butter. I can't wait to get my Serval and also to hear more from others who have or are going this route as well.
gotta_goatsfast
The Toomeys do not fair well on this motor. Not once in the power curve did they rise above CPI or Shearer inframes. You'd be losing all over. I can assume the pro-circuits are going to be just as miserable. Fact is, this is just too much motor for those pipes. They simply cannot support the amount of air these move. They'll choke up the motor. Theory holds that an inframe drag pipe such as the CPIs will support top end and overrev to compensate for the low exhaust port timing, while that low timing supports a better powerstroke at lower rpm. Also, the low exhaust port timing means cooler exhaust temps than a cub or hot ported stock cylinder. This keeps the pipe cool, and a cool pipe will produce more low-mid range power. This is one of the reasons alky makes more torque, is that it keeps your pipes cooler than race fuel. As for carburetors, I think 33mm carbs are a minimum also. Some builders have tested with 38mm carbs and been satisfied!
