damn. but from the looks of things i think your head was beat up from the crank failing not the head first. look like you melted a bearing and sucked it up in the rest of your motor. i bet some metal was in the pipe too. hopefully it didn't crack the cases at all.

kinda figured that. the other side looks great. the bearing retainer failed and sent metal through the topend. the center bearings are in poor shape too.

 

cases are scored a bit but no cracks.

another theory is that the crank seal went out, or clogged jet in the carb on that side causing a lean condition and detonation killed the bearing. i would definitely check every last thing including carbs, reeds etc with a fine tooth comb before running it with new parts.

my first thought was carb until i tore the top end off and heard the bearing ratting. i plan on double checking everything as i dont want to go through this again.

Thats shitty man, make sure to check the pipes for schrapnel before reassembly!

worst part was figuring out how the hell we were gonna get it off the dunes. luckily some kids from kansas were out on the sand with a chevy truck!
