Thack82
Okay, In no way do I plan on doing this, but I've always wondered and I figured if any body knew the answer it would be a guy on this forum. I went to Little Sandy ATV Drag Strip a few years back (8yrs ago). a buddy of mine had a Modded Polaris Sport 400 that ran pretty good, all the other Polaris guys that were running super fast times had big Snow Mobil motors on there Polaris Sports and Scramblers. I had a Yamaha Blaster at the time so of course I was a die hard Yamaha Fan and I wanted a Banshee to smoke those heavy automatic pieces of junk. So it came down to the end of the heads up drag racing and a Built Banshee and a Polaris Sport with a Snow Mobil engine were going head to head for the last race............... And the Polaris ended up winning but not by much. On the way home I told my buddy the race was bull shit, If the guy that raced the Banshee wanted to destroy his quad and put a GP-800R or a GP-1200R out of a Yamaha Wave Runner on his quad he would have stopped the shit out of that Polaris. So now years later I've got a Built XC Banshee and I wanted to know why no one has ever done this? It makes more sense to me to put a Yamaha GP-800R on a Banshee then putting some kind of crotch rocket motor on one, and this is the reason I say that: 1. The Banshee was named the Banshee because of it's sound. 2. Both the GP-800R and the Banshee are in-line 2 cylinder 2 strokes made by Yamaha. 3. I Ran across a dude that put a R-1 motor on a Banshee on you tube; the R-1 has 130hp, the GP-800R has 120. (Plus its a 2 stroke ) 4. The engines are set up similar, and they look alot alike so it would have to bolt up easier. I know its a engine made for water and the radiator would need to be ginormous , But it would be a bad machine and still have the cool Banshee quality's that make the Banshee what it is. If you were real crafty and you put the GP-1200R 155 horse power three cylinder in the Banshee it would be something words couldn't describe. You can get that motor up around 200 horse power with an arm full of eBay modds. Guys please don't rake me over the coles on this one, I would love to see it done JCT

fastquad02blaster
I was helping a buddy work on his uncle's yamaha wave runner. I think it was a 3 cylinder though. I was just wondering.....That would look kick ass on the shee. I hear you on that one. I dream about an rz500 motor on a drag shee in my garage. Phelps
might as well use a snowmobile engine if your going to make the swap, because you will need the belt setup to run it. by the time you ad the clutch setup, wiring, battery/charging system (mainly to run a electric water pump) you have a big heavy clunky looking bike. with today's technology and Calvin's cylinders the power can easily be reached with a "banshee based engine" idk right off hand what the larger engines 18+mm DM engines are making, but you can come damn close to 120 on a full built 421 cub motor. go on up in size and i am sure money will buy you way more than your ready to use at your average dune fun drags. a lot of ppl have went the engine swap route and have realized it was a waste. hell i think there is even a video of a turbo busa banshee getting raped by a larger stroked banshee based engine. RZBansheeMan
I think years ago before all the after market cylinders... Some people were using some modified Kawasaki Jet ski cylinders on Banshee bottoms, I've never seen it, but had heard about it.

Larry's Shee
Considering there are three and four cyl banshee based engines available I'd take the easier route. Years ago saw an article on a sno-mo engine mated to a shee trans. That's the problem with a CVT, dirt (sand) is not good. I can't imagine the maint and repair on a sand dragger. I agree with all of you 100%. It's a waste of an endangered species to take the Banshee motor off and replace it with some other brand or type of motor. I know alot of the Honda TRX 250R Guys put Honda Pilot 400cc Jugs and top ends on there bikes. I wonder if you could get by with the top end only vs the whole motor. You guys aren't as Bad as the Honda TRX 250R Forums, they will rag someones ass completely off the forum site for putting different motors on the old Legendary TRX-250R, Hell one guy modified new TRX-450R plastic and put it on his 250R and they told him he was a dumb ass for defacing the bike. My brother Has a like new 1989 TRX-250R with new OEM style Black Maier Plastic and a 1988 250R replica graphic graphic kit, and a mildly built (HotRods Crank, Wiesco Pistons, .020 Bore, Woods Port, Cool Head ) by FTZ Racing. When he put his bike together and I saw it it made me want to get Maier OEM Style plastic and a OEM style graphic Kit and just have my Raptor looking front to swap in and out on occasions. jbooker82
Or you could keep the manual 6 speed transmissin instead of running a cv belt. Now will you have 3 cylinders or 4?
Trick2stroke
I was reading about one of those 1100 tripple billet motors, bitch makes around 250 horses.

That's what I'm talking about!! Way easier and probably as economical to build . My friend and I built a drag motorcycle with a 500 Cat and cvt and it wasn't easy. Not real fast ( 125 1/4) but deadly consistant for bracket racing.
sleeper06
if your interested you can use a baker six speed off a harley,i have toyed with many jet-ski combos the trouble on land is the pipe set up.Jet ski pipes pipes are tuned using stages of water injection for peak motor performance unless you spend a shitload on a pipe designed for that motor in a specific rpm range the motor would not make as many ponies as you would like,i have also looked into just ptting upper halves on(cylinders).Keep in mind i have a mill and tig and lots of other shit. Its cheaper to buy a twister cylinder and bolt it on.Time is money in my world
gotta_goatsfast
If this turns into a penis-length contest, my pick is to stuff an aluminum 4 valve V8 with one... no two turbochargers.
n2otoofast4u
If this turns into a penis-length contest, my pick is to stuff an aluminum 4 valve V8 with one... no two turbochargers. Back in the day one of the ways to make a tripple was to use a watercraft bottom end, and then graft a tranny section to the cases... There were lots of these that used to run around.. Much like the old school "cranker" motors that were snowmobile motors with tranny cases grafted to the back side of them.. Now you just make a simple phone call and give your debit card number, stroke length, and cylds that are being used, and a set up cases shows up at your door a few weeks later ready for you to install parts into!! gotta_goatsfast
Don't forget Mattoon Machine's 4 cylinder cases. What in the hell are those beasts capable of puttin out for power and torque?
