Riding the frozen lakes

Recommended Posts

I can't even begin to describe how good it feels to be out on the lakes again. I just love ripping it across vast distances at WOT in 6th. It's also the only time of year that I dont feel like she's gonna blow up at full pin. Cold air is definitely our friend. My bike just loves -12celcius. It sings. I got yelled at by a pack of Skidoo riders for being on their trail a bit but you know how that goes.... sorry, can't hear you.

it is fun to ride lakes....and yes they scream hard in the winter. BUT the odds of blowing up your bike actually increase if you don't rejet. The colder the air is means that it is also more dense.....so there's more air molecules in the same amount of room as say when its 100* outside. More Air means you gotta throw more fuel at your bike to keep it from running lean which means you must rejet. Other than that there isnt anything difference as to whether your motor will blow up. And i don't like to keep it pinned in 6th for really long distances....never have and never will

Where I live we don't get a lot of snow but the lakes and rivers freeze up pretty good. Nothing like running a meandering creek for miles, corner after corner, then back out on the lake for a wide open run. love it! Just wish I had my shit together already!lol

I'm currently jetted for -30celcius so I can run all day long at WOT. The bikes just sound so much healthier in the cold as compared to summer. Cold dense air is beautiful. Someone said its like a highway on the lake, I agree. If i need a pack of smokes at the store in town, it's a straight line across 2 lakes and im there in 5 mins. We are allowed to ride the roads here too.(town bylaw)

More of you should go out and experience this. I ride way more in winter than summer which hardly seems possible. Winter riding is all high speed because the rough trails get all smoothed out and the lakes are all open speed zones. Just don't forget to rejet.

and the river like i said is a big spot to ride on from bar to bar on sled well this year with high waters in the summer and this much snow freezing there are alot of ice heaves

which if u dont know the river can be really dangerous or can be fun to jump like we do with the wheelers and studed tires is a blast

  • 2 weeks later...

Been riding on ice all my life, only time someone ever gets hurt is when they dont know the lake/river or are drunk. Going WOT at night when you dont know were the hell you are isent the best idea. But it sure is fun!

or if ya hit an ice shove doubled up on the z400 doing 50 and end up with 600 bucks of repairs lol .. never follow to close to someone else... :shootself:
