Well after too many years of not owning a quad I have finally came across one. Spent $100 for it. It is missing the top end (jugs, head, pistons). I have an old set of jugs laying around from my previous bike. The problem is I blew a piston in the one side. Back when it happened I figured I would just upgrade so all I did was some self honing to the jugs and put them on the shelf. 3-4 years down the road I am wondering if I can get away without boring them out. They both measure under 64mm, roughly 63.87. Just wondering by looking at the pics if anything jumps out or screams "get them bored." Thanks

only way to tell is to take them to a machinist and have them measure, but if there are any marks you can feel with your fingers in the cylinders i would say its bore time.Sounds like you are on std bore,so your not in bad shape

Even if they look ok they could be ovaled out

somewhere, there is a bore gauge screamin "fondle me! i want to get shoved in all different parts of those cylinders".......seriously, though, those scores need to be cleaned up, and checked for clearance of a new set of pistons. i'd hate to get new pistons, just to find out they are too sloppy

Since they r on a stock bore i would go ahead and punch them out .010 over and get new pistons. whats to loose. that way you know you have a fresh topend. Your gonna have to buy pistons anyway and the bore ,hone and chamfer is cheap to do. There is plety of life left in those cylinders go all new

Thanks guys. Your right, just do it now so I know it's good. I was just anxious to ride and they felt pretty smooth so I thought I may be good. Who's everybody using these days? When I had my old bike I sent stuff to FAST, are they still awesome?

FAST is still awesome. If you are really anxious to get them going I know a polaris guy that also does banshees and 250r motors. I use him for all my polaris 2 strokes and he is great. He will send you a fresh set of cylinders and charge you a core, then you send your cylinders back and he credits you back the core charge. I have done this a couple of times and it works pretty slick, I can do a topend in one evening instead of 2. I did my last banshee topend through him and his prices were spot on. His name is Rick Ritter and he is Ritter cycle racing out of Illinois. Not trying to steer you away from any of the site sponsors but if quick turn around is what you want, this is an option.
