BMC_SHEE
Hello, I just bought an '89 Banshee from a family member. It made its first dune trip this weekend. I was having a few problems. 1. One carb was running rich and One carb was running lean (Right carb looking at them from the back of the bike) 2. On flat ground it had some power but when it went to climb a dune it struggled to get up and around the dune (lack of torque???) 3. Choke Issue (We messed with the idle screws and it didn't seem to do too much) - When sitting still with the choke in the engine idled very high and when the choke is pulled out it idles normal - When actually driving the quad the choke had to be pushed back in or it bogged down I was very bummed out that it is having issues on the first trip out. Any help would be very much appreciated.
68chevyc10355
It sounds like you may have an air leak. Do a leak down test to see if this is the case. Also, do a compression check to get a rough idea of what kind of shape your top end is in.

zachass9
Sound to me like you wanna check the choke tube that goes between the carbs!! Just an idea, if it is there, in good shape, and in the right spot, I would go ahead and leak down test it!! Never hurts to do a compression test either! Just my .02 Fresh plugs and fresh fuel is a good starting point as well as making sure the carbs are good and clean as well as the airfilter! Not a bad idea to check the condition of the reeds as well!! Sorry, I was kind of thinking while I typed!! Good luck and welcome to the HQ!! BMC_SHEE
It sounds like you may have an air leak. Do a leak down test to see if this is the case. Also, do a compression check to get a rough idea of what kind of shape your top end is in. The Top end is brand new he replaced it two years ago and it has only been on like 3 trips. I will check on the air leak. Thanks

That did bring up a good point I believe it does but i have a feeling something is wrong with it because the kill switch no longer does anything. How can I check this and hook it back up if necessary??
BMC_SHEE
Thanks everyone for your help. Anymore input would be very much appreciated!!! I am pumped to be a new banshee owner but I want to get the thing running. Everyone warned me..."Oh don't get a banshee..its a two stroke and will give you problems". I want to get this running right just to prove them wrong.
fastquad02blaster
Problems?!?!? I had a blaster before my shee and that thing was a tank. I put gas and oil in it and rode it. My banshee hasn't given me an ounce of problems, except for when human error was involved. You show em what a yamaha 2 stroke can do. Make us proud. It still could run with all of them on flat ground. Its just when i put a load on it (duning) that it gave me problems. I have a feeling some shortcuts might have been taken by the previous owner but I am not sure I am going to try to look at all of these suggestions and see what happens. I love the bike I just want it to run perfect.
zachass9
Did you check the choke tube between the carbs? Have you pulled the bowls and looked at the inside of the carbs and checked what jets are in there?
BMC_SHEE
Did you check the choke tube between the carbs? Have you pulled the bowls and looked at the inside of the carbs and checked what jets are in there? I took the carbs apart before this trip and totally cleaned them. I will take a closer look. I think the choke crossover tube is alright but again I will look closer to try and narrow in on this problem.

Let me know what you figure out and feel free to hit me up if you need anything!! Z Thanks man I really appreciate it. I am going to pick it up from my girlfriends brother's house tonight where it is store for the time being...to take a look at it. It is mostly a pain because it is the first quad I've owned and because everyone tried to talk me out of the two stroke especially the banshee but I love them and I just want it to run right both for me and to prove them wrong. Ill keep you posted.
BMC_SHEE
One thing I was thinking about that an early reply brought up is that the kill switch doesnt do anything anymore? TORS removal or what? I am not sure if this could be affecting something just a thought
