ggalleone
Hello all, I am new here and very glad I found this awesome site! I have been a 4 wheeler for years but always had stock bikes and never had to do anything more than change spark plugs and small tinker stuff. I can built a small block chevy to run 9's in the quarter, but when it comes to 2 strokes, I am somewhat lost. I just bought a 98 Banshee and it is definetly moded. It has been torn apart to have engine parts powder coated and it has an aftermarket super cool head. The seller told me it is bored and ported. He said it has T6 pipes but he sold them to a friend and put the stocks back on. It has a boost bottle, and a swing arm also. I raced another Banshee owner who has a stock bike today. Only thing not stock on his bike are the T5's. I blasted him off the line and into 2nd, but then the bike goes flat. He quickly went around me and left me in his dust. The power band is extreme in 1st gear, but then drasticaly tapers off through the rest. I am already sure im going to purchase pipes off a fellow Banshee HQ member in hopes this helps, but could also use tuning guidance, and tips on what to look for on my bike to give me a better idea of what I have and am dealing with. Thanks in advance for any help and again I am glad I decided to become a member here!

06specialedition
X2. Once you get some good pipes you'll need to properly jet that bike. I prefer to run the stock crossover tube instead of a boost bottle as well just fyi. If the bike is ported I wouldn't get another set of T6's, they are designed for a stock port IMO. ggalleone
Thanks for all the feedback! As for the T6 suggestion, Im not completely sure its a stock port. I was told by the seller that the head was ported and the cylinders were bored out. He also said he did something with the crank, but he was a fast talking hard to understand sales kinda guy. Is there a big difference from the T5 to the T6?

ggalleone
One more quick question....could the difference of him running racing fuel and me running 93 make a big difference? would this have anything to do with the fall- off of power I have in the higher gears? ggalleone
BTW, I am just outside chicago and our elevation is roughly 580. I think I need to start by figuring out what I have for a cylinder head...CC, etc. I have a text to the kid I bought it from in hopes he can tell me in detail what the bike has. Hopefully Ill have specs to follow. THANKS AGAIN TO ALL!
ggalleone
Ok, so the head is a "COOL-HEAD", I also found atifreeze seemingly seeping up along the head bolts. I gave them a slight tightening but am not sure what this means now. The kid I bought it from says its bored 40 over and the head is ported, but doesnt know what CC . Pipes are definetly first but now sure what will perform best, and from there I need to learn how to tune it. AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Just need a 100G to send it to one of you guys

Just need a 100G to send it to one of you guys 2 stroke heads are not ported, on a 2 stroke you port the cylinders. 2 stroke heads are modified by milling the deck surface and/or modifying the combustion chamber for a better burn of the air/fuel mixture. If both are done to the head it is called "cut and chambered".You pipe choice will be determined by your riding style and where you ride. As for your coolant leak, it could be a bad O ring or the sealing washers under the nut depending on the brand of cool head.
Larry's Shee
Tuning is not that difficult. Read/research here and other sites. Start in jetting and exhaust. Clymers repair manual has a section on tuning. Just keep in mind that any time you change anything you have to re-jet. Was a thread about basic mods / amount of change ,as in remove snorkel go up one , remove lid up two. Keep in mind that no two quads are the same , always start on the fat side with jetting ,you might not get that last horse but you also won't get a hole in your piston. And you can always get help here !!
ggalleone
Awesome! Thanks agian for all the pointers! I ended up downloading a PDF file manual from here, so im good in that department now. As for my riding style, I would say that im an open rider?? I like to rip from one sand dune to the next, jump just about anything and everything, and I like trail riding if its open and fast! The riding I have done so far on the Shee I havnt needed 5th or 6th gear at all and barely got into 4th. Long and short is that im in 2nd and 3rd power bands mostly. So I need a pipe that works for that. (BTW, I dont creek ride, and avoid mud when I can, not my cup of tea)
