elka linkage

I need to step in and clear up some mis-information here.

1) The OP was inquiring about running a stock shock with Elka's linkage.

2) The Elka link actually LOWERS the bike when paired with a stock length shock, and does not increase UP travel, but merely DOWN travel. If your bike is sitting 2 inches higher, I would recommend removing the shock, and measuring your eye to eye length, and ensure that it is 367mm.

3) If you were to purchase the two together, I would sell you a 367mm ETE length, VS the stock ~340mm. THAT is where your extra travel comes from.

4) I have been building suspension for MANY years, and I am failing to comprehend how shock linkage would encourage tire grip while cornering with a swingarm style suspension, as there is 0 articulation present. Please elaborate. Perhaps I am misunderstanding.

Also, From jbooker82

Stock wheel travel is 9.7 inches. The Elka link WITH the Elka shock designed for this link, only increases wheel travel to 11.25 inches, a mere difference of 1.55 inches. Keep in mind that the stated increased wheel travel is WITH the Elka Dual Linkage, and WITH the Elka Long Travel shock designed for this linkage. The Dual Linkage installed in conjunction with a stock shock WILL NOT increase travel. It is physically impossible. Changing the point at which a shock mounts will not make it compress further, or extend any more than it already can on the stock linkage.

That info is wrong. Banshee got 8.7inchs of travel, not 9.7. So it's 2.5'' more, not 1.55 That was probably a typo tho.

Some fellas do things different. Matt was great with shocks. However that fella Andy Maul at Maultech created linkage that made decent improvements in 60' times and cornering. I don't know the science of all that shit, but if Andy was still alive, I'm sure he'd break it down.
