moosekak
Hi guys! I'm new here and i be lookin for help and opinions please. Just got my 95 shee running again after a long and expensive complete rebuild. Takin it out twice to st. anthony and it doesn't run like it should. While pulling in the top end it tends to miss or sputter. It is a 4 mill stroker with a cool head, 18 cc domes, t 5's, reed spacers, v force 3 reeds, billet intake with built in crossover, 33 pwk's, k&n's, 5 degrees advanced timing, running straight 111 with a 40-1 ratio, dune play port with case port matched as well. Running 180psi copresseion. For jetting I have 145 mains, 45 pilots, cel needles on the middle clip. Elevation around here is about 46-4800. I've ruled out jetting as the problem and turned my timing back to 4 degrees and it still exsists. I am running a ricks stator, could this be a problem? Please any ideas on what could make it do this? Help and opinions surely appreciated!
VegasJeff
Welcome moosey,I would check the pick up gap, being the motor was just rebuilt.that's where I would start, but it doesn't rule out the ricky junk.
sleeper06
From personal experiance 33mm pwks like higher jets I would try 165 mains 48 pilot cel needle on 4th clip, judging on dome size and compression your durations are up there so start at there, and ricky stator is junk but your def lean,I forgot im at sea level but that only one or two sizes I would still start there and work down

EvilBanshee
From my experiences, at WOT , If it spitters and sputters and wont rev out, tells me your rich. Before you do anything. bring a 13/16 wrench and gloves, run it WOT and pull the Cluch in, shut her down, pull the plugs immediately. and see what they look like. Wet and dark, your rich. White or dry and clean. your Lean I would bet your rich. Usually if your lean it will ping and rev out like crazy.
moosekak
Thanks for the opinions guys but unfortunately I have took my pick up gap in as close as possible, gaped my plugs down to 20 and went extreme rich and lean with jetting I'm thinking it's electrical but just guessing. Any other ideas?

TIM LUTZ
Thanks for the opinions guys but unfortunately I have took my pick up gap in as close as possible, gaped my plugs down to 20 and went extreme rich and lean with jetting I'm thinking it's electrical but just guessing. Any other ideas? What plugs are you running? Very well could be a weak CDI or coil. At that cylinder pressure you may want to look into some better coils. moosekak
What plugs are you running? Very well could be a weak CDI or coil. At that cylinder pressure you may want to look into some better coils. Was running B8es's gapped at 20. Called my motor builder and he's saying to run Br9es's and to replace my stock plug caps. Odered some ngk caps, wires and new plugs. Crossing my fingers it works. I'll keep ya posted
98_shee
Make sure the wires coming from your pickup coil didn't get rubbed by the flywheel. I had the same problem and that's what caused it. I also agree with sleeper your jetting sounds lean. When I had the problem it acted rich. AKheathen
what all is new since it ran good? was it the same setup exactly before? i tend to think the reed spacers could be the problem. i would generally suggest putting them on the other side of the reeds, but one of the vforce reed setups have the cage and flange separate, and the spacers only hold the cage by the corners, just barely, and could eat them loose. i would see if you can get the carbs on without the spacers, or if you can possibly run smaller spacers. top-end missing is also a known problem with higher output stators, and all models ricky stator/ricks stator. rpm specific misses are also spark related, like plug caps/wires
Josh Z
My bike used to sputter up top too. I was running out of fuel. Even if you have a pingel it is possible that your gas cap is not letting enough air in so you end up with negative pressure in your tank. I just drilled out my cap and it fixed it. My friend's bike was doing the same thing a few months ago and he could not get it to run so he sold my dad his cylinders, pistons, carbs, pipes etc and took the bike to K&T to get the DM put on it and Kim asked what was wrong with it, Brandon told him it was cutting out up top! Kim pulled the gas cap and couldn't even blow through it it was so clogged! So after new plugs different fuel, jet change after jet change after jet change ........ then he spent $5g to get all this shit done, but it was his gas cap. lol! So check that! just loosen the cap and do a run or try a different cap.
