Tranny issues?

Ok I am goin to try to explain this the best I can. I was at Silver Lake about a month ago and the first day out, after riding around pretty hard for the first 30 minutes I went from 5th to 4th and the tranny wouldnt shift, I was stuck in 4th. So me and my buddy played with the shifter a little and if you pushed the shifter down it would stay down and if you shifted up it would stay up, the shifter wouldnt spring back in the middle more less. So after about 5 minutes of letting the bike sit , we played with the shifter again just goin up and down and the shifter finally went back to the middle and I had all me gears back. So we continued riding and it did the same thing only in 2nd and 3rd this time. We let it sit and played with it and it started working again. Now this past weekend I was climbing a hill and went 2nd to 3rd and it did the same thing again. Seems like when its hot and I shift quickly is when it happens. I tore the clutch cover off and didnt see anything wrong. But you could ride it forever as long as you shift it nice and slow it just happens when slamming threw gears. Any suggestions?

Possible spring on the pawl broke, possible shifter out of adjustment, the eccentric nut loosened up, clutch could be trashed.

Any way you slice it, at the very least the clutch cover and basket is coming off to see behind there and possibly repair/adjust things.
