Hello, just picked up an 06 banshee and had some questions. The seller told me it has been bored .20 over, ported cylinders, and a stage 4, 40mm 2 into 1 intake. I have looked and looked, but I have not found a 40mm 2 into 1 kit. I have noticed that the kits come with k&n filters and mine has a foam uni filter. I am just wanting to find out what size carb I have, because I need a new carb boot and would like to know what size carb is on there.

Also is Trinity stuff garbage?? This kit is a little over 1 year old and the boot is dry rotted badly, but my buddies stock carb boots are about 10 years old and still look good.

Found 1 boot on ebay but not for a 40mm and it was $75, I thought that price is outrageous for a boot that only lasted about 1 year.

I am new to the banshee side and just wanted some advice on these parts, thanks!!

Don't run that bike until you replace the boot. A cracked intake boot will cause an airleak, and make the bike run lean.

 

I believe trinity sold a 2-into-1 that was a 38mm airstriker. Could be wrong, but I think a 40mm carb will fit in the 38mm boots. Someone should be able to correct me if I'm wrong. Perhaps the previous owner put a 40mm carb on a kit made for the 38...

 

The easiest way to measure the carb, is mic the inside diameter of the carb. Not the filter side, the side that goes into your intakes.

I took the carb off and measured it, it is a 38mm with a 165 main and a 65 pilot with an open air filter at sea level. Plugs look good but seems to bog down a little when pegging it at low speed, once the rpm's are up it rips. wondering if I should go with a bigger pilot needle. Any help on the jetting would be appreciated!

 

I examined the carb boot good and does not leak, but that is first on my list.

That is the same carb I have on my intake and it runs great. Mine seems to load up on the lower rpm's and I have a couple smaller pilot jets on the way. What size pilot jet do you run with?

 

I am sure there have been a lot of debates about the single carb versus the dual carbs, but for now shee runs great and will probably stay with the 2 into 1. If I would have gotten a shee with the stock dual carbs, I would have kept the duals.

 

I have no plans for the shee, but I am not wanting a monster, I mainly trail ride. This isn't my first quad and I have found myself before chasing more power and still craving more power, it never ended. Only to reach a point and realize that it isn't a trail quad any more.

48 or 50 pilot. your main is kind of small. do plug chop after you got going good.

well I went for another ride today and shee kept stalling. I would pull the carb and remove the pilot just to find it clogged. After about the fourth time stalling due to clogged jets, a buddy of mine gave me a new inline fuel filter to use. Ran great for about 15 minutes and then stalled again, pulled the pilot jet and it was still clogged. While I was removing the carb I noticed that the new filter had already trapped a lot of stuff, could not believe all the trash in it, more then I would like to talk about. I finally got the POS out of the jet and I believe it was acting like a flap. fuel flow would push the debri over the jet hole and then I would blow in the other direction and it would appear to be clear but the fuel would just push it back and clog the jet again in just a few minutes. Unfortunetly I think it was too late, right jug was missing, sputtering, back firing, and sounded awful. I am going to check the compression later tonight with a friend.

 

Will a filter mess up the fuel mix?

 

If not I do believe the clogged jet caused the engine to run lean, on top of junk being thrown in the cylinders, leading to engine damage!

 

Previous owner gave me a set of Vito's 65.92mm pistons and 1 set of rings, but I can't find another set of rings anywhere. I am just wanting to locate parts just in case.

I just got done adding some parts to my 1987 shee today and have no idea whats going on with the jetting. FMF Gnarly with power core II's open air box with k&n bored .40 over trinity 2 into 1 with a 38mm pwk airstriker first off from everyone's experience has anyone seen someone with the same setup as me so i can ask them about the jetting size they use. and the airstriker has a screw for the metering rod instead of a clip so maybe find out a rough estimate of how many turns it needs. Thank You!

It sucks, the guy I got it from said he had to rebuild the motor and replace the right cylinder, I figured eveything would be fixed and good to go. Turns out the right rod bearing at the crank went, he must have just rebuilt the top end and didn't even consider to check the rods. So now I am rebuilding a motor that supposably has about 20 hours on it, at least this time I will no it is done right. The local guy that is going to be boring my cylinders confirmed that the reason for the engine damage was due to a rod bearing. He said that once the bearings got free they got sucked up and most of it got blown out the exhaust. He said I was lucky to be able to reuse my cylinders and casings. He said a .060 bore should be what I need, which takes it to .080 over now.

 

Does anyone have a clue of about how much my jetting would go up by, by going .060 over?? Jetting was a 165 main jet with a 65 pilot jet, it never ran hot and plugs always looked good.

fix the boot. go down on your pilot and if your bike runs good there is no need to go buy a set of dual carbs. just take care of the bike and it will take care of you. clean the filter and check the cylider. if its getting some scratches you can hone it out real quick. CLEAN THE AIR FILTER. clogged filters will reduce air flow and screw with your jetting plus clog your carbs and jets

pull the tank and clean it out, and the lines and carb......filters are a bad idea to run permanent. they can clog when you are not looking and make it start to run the bowl low, which will run the jetting a bit lean...

 

 

I cleaned out the fuel tank good when I got it because it had been sitting for a while, all the crap in the tank now had to come from the fuel pump. The filter I got is small and clear, so I can see the filter and if it is getting clogged. After finding all the junk in my fuel system, I don't feel safe without a filter.
