2001blackshee
Hey guys whats up, my names Phill.. I jus got my 2001 banshee last week.. Shes got some mods as seen in my sig.. My gas has been running a lil rich past few days and i doubt my problem would occur from runningto rich.. I been riding for 30 mins today and my bikes running under 150 degress and i stop for a rest. Maybe 10 mins later i fire her back up.. I put it in first and i hear a clunk or a thump... and she shuts right off.. Kick start will not move.. I guess i lock the pistons up? Im not sure.. The compression was pretty weak when i got the bike, but still ran like a raped ape... So im just curious on what can i do to clerify whats wrong.. do i hafta tear it apart? Nothing seams to be cracked, like on the cylinder or engine cases.. .. Im pretty deapressed about it... i didnt even have the qaud for a week. But i know how these 2 strokes are.. i just need some direction.. any advice helps Thanx Phill

Im not a fan of boring out stock cylinders , I rather buy a big bore kit , instead of a bore job....I will start tearing her down tomm.. i was pretty angry when it happend yesterday...So i put her in the shed and left her alone for a little while haha.. thanx again guys i will keep you guys posted!!! Jereme6655
why are you against boring out your cylinders? They are 2-stroke cylinders so they are designed to be bored out.....it is how all 2-stroke rebuilds are done. The stock cylinders come with PLENTY of meat in them to be bored multiple times.......so when you get your pistons out just take your cylinders to a reputable shop and have them measured......they can tell you how many more times you can SAFELY bore it out. dirtydownunder
if you had bad experience's with bored cylinders, id say it was human error. 64mm is stock bore size, 66mm is max bore size, anything in between is happy time. start stripping her down and see whats up. take the stator cover off and try turn the flywheel, (just incase the kicker hasnt done anything stupid) if the flywheel is stuck (seized) pull the cylinders off. big bore wont do much for power, but porting them will make the world of difference. I plan on getting her stripped down tomm.. But im curious what rebuild kit i should use? Wiseco ? seems like what everyons using!! What should i be paying for a top end rebuild? gaskets and all.. obviously dpeneding on the bore size. I found them from 219.00 up to 260.oofir a full kit! That sounds about right or is that too much? and if theres anyone of the sponsors on this bnoard i could purchase off of, i would like to ... AKheathen
first thing- pull your clutch cover off. 10-15min with draining oil. i just about guarantee something happened either there, or in the tranny. the shock of putting it in gear could have been enough to kill an already bad crank bearing, too. if you do not see something right away looking at the gears and shifter, pull the clutch plates out and see if it's trans or crank related. Jereme6655
Yes there are sponsors on this site....im sure almost all of them on the site will be able to sell you what you need for the rebuild. I do know that Jeff from FAST Racing does have everything to do the rebuild. AND if you did hve a bad experience with boring out cylinders...and are still slightly concerned....you can send them out to one of the site sponsors. They are the serious ones to consult with these motors and they know what they are doing. The upside of doing this is when you send out your cylinders they can mic them to determine size then they can grab the right piston off their shelves and bore the cylinder to the correct size. They can honestly do these things in their sleep. and if you want to get a port job to really wake up your bike they can do that too. One note on getting the cylinders bored if you DONT go through a site sponor.......ask if the shop knows about champfering the enges for the cylinders.....if they give you a puzzled look...RUN!!! Banshee's need chamfered edges around the ports so the rings don't snag when the piston is runnin its stroke.
2001blackshee
ok guys i tore her apart this morning.. my one piston has broke into 3 peices... i found 2 peices still gotta find the one.. i had alot of carbon build up.. my cylinders are not scored luckily,, but will take them to a shop.. My next problem is finding that peice of the piston , think it might be near the crankshaft...and tips or ideas? its my left piston that broke.. alf44
Split the cases and get all the peices out. Ive got some New wisco pistons if you do decide to bore your cylinders. I also have 2 sets of stock cylinders available. Hit me up with a parts list and I can get you hooked up. Definantly get you a Wisco piston kit alot cheaper than what your finding. Shoot me a pm, Email or give me a call. Info is in my sig.
AKheathen
wow, that is a first for me. i've never seen a piston blow just from putting it in gear. i would still check the crank bearings real good while you have it out. and other than porting, stroking it will get allot more power than big bore. that is also a diecision you need to make before porting, because porting for stock stroke can take out too much material to be able to stroke it. I took the cylinders to a local reputable shop around here.. Got the cylinders honed..stuck with the bore that was on there which is 64.75 (.30over). She already has a sweet port job.. This thing ran like a beast before she took a shit.. I dont feel comfortable splitting the cases , So i made a deal with the shop, there gonna split the cases for me and check everything out.. And try and locate the 3rd peice of the piston that i beleive to be laying at the bottom. So im just waiting for the cylinders to come back and i need to buy a new top end kit... new head bolts and a new O-ring set. Then i can peice her back together... Im hoping to get her runing before the snow comes...Moneys tight but shell get there... Figured id just fill the guys who responded to the post..I jus hope all is good inside them cases!!!!!! Jereme6655
hey AK....almost sounds like he may have had a fractured piston skirt and the shock from the trans may have just dislodged it and dropped it into his crank lockin it up......at least thats what comes to mind to me when he said he put it in gear then he heard a thump and it locked up. If that was the case....that's just a bad timing situation lol
