Lucas Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Basically I don't know exactly what I am doing. An old roommate left a 1990 Banshee that didn't run at my house. The problem was electrical, so by process of elimination I found and corrected the problem. Every thing electrical is now new effectively, then I cleaned and rebuilt the carbs because it still wouldn't start. When I put the carbs back in it fired a couple times, then finally started. I gave it a little gas, the let off the throttle and it quit. I got it to start once more after that, then again let off the throttle and it quit. Now, all I get is a little backfire when I'm kicking it and some smoke comes out of it. I know very little about 2 stroke engines and any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Quote
rdzbangshee Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 your compression is probably At 90 psi not good check it to make sure. Quote
Lucas Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 your compression is probably At 90 psi not good check it to make sure. What should it be? How do I check it also, do I just remove the plugs and hook a compression tester and kick it over? If so how many times should I kick it? Quote
Sandfrk33 Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Make sure you put the right slides in the right carbs. They will go in the wrong carbs backwards. The half moon cut out at the bottom of the slide should face the rear or the bike. If you pull the air filter off, you can look into the back of the carbs. Hopefully its something simple. Good luck, post again if it isn't the prob Quote

Good luck, post again if it isn't the prob Along with this you should make sure the carb bowls are on the right carbs; the bowl with the small brass "BB" on the lower front goes on the left carb (the carb with the choke knob) Additionally, is the choke crossover hose connected between the two carbs? The carbs also need to be synced--there are a number of posts on here about carb syncing. Quote
J-Madd Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Step 1: Always unplug the TORS. Step 2: Make sure the choke tube is in place. Others listed above would be the next steps. If none of these fix it, check the pickup coil gap. Quote
