jbooker82
Looks rich to me but how long did you ride on those plugs. Mine are pretty much all white except for the smoke ring when I chop them. Looks like yours have been rode around for a while.
dajogejr
Yep...those were run for too long.

Mine are pretty much all white except for the smoke ring when I chop them. Looks like yours have been rode around for a while. them were brand new plugs, one run up to 6th gear, and one run back to 6th gear, WFO throttle all the way. pulled, put in box and brought home total time on that plug, 1.5 min MAX
dajogejr
To much time. Warm the bike up on old plugs. Put in new plugs, go WOT from 1-6 and at the end of 6th, pull the clutch in and turn the bike off. Coast to a stop. Pull the plugs and put the old ones back in... Those plugs have a lot of fuel on them and after looking at it again, that is one thick, black smoke ring. What kind of fuel, oil and at what mixture are you running it at? Was that the left or right side plug, by the way (stator side or clutch side)?

I ran the bike around for 1.5 tanks of gas, changed to new plugs and then made one run wide open, turned around and wide open back, shut down and pulled 93 octane shell gas and amsoil dominator oil 40:1 right side (clutch) hot side Edited August 23, 2010 by Overboost
dajogejr
You're either Hella fat on the jetting or you have a bad crank seal. How does the other side look?
Overboost
You're either Hella fat on the jetting or you have a bad crank seal. How does the other side look? that was one side only, and crank seal better be good, just got motor back from jeff at fast.....that was first run after break in, 1.5 tanks of gas at recommended jetting. I had to re gap plugs to .020 because stock was cuttin out at high RPM, this chop was taken before re gap I now have plugs at .021 and no more high end cut out.....I still need to work on low end bog....mid is nasty but high and low need tweeking still..... I am just looking to get my baseline right before correcting others, one at a time. I would rather be a bit rich than lean while tuning
T_Shee
i would think 160 would be a little rich especially at 1200 feet but im not positive. personally i would do a chop with 158s and see how it looks compared to those. and just do one pass like dajo said. dajogejr
That makes a little more sense. Fix your ignition issue...NO reason you should have to gap your plugs at .021 on a gas motor.
AKheathen
...and that's 2 runs on the plugs. just pull through 6th and stop and change it out. don't turn around and come back before changing it out.. check your grounds first, including the timing plate. I would rather be a bit rich than lean while tuning Your plugs will read wierd like that if the bikes ignition is cutting out due to it not burning all of the fuel effiently. Do NOT go any leaner Untill you fix your plug caps or ignition cutting out problems etc... Like i said on the phone please send ME your plug chop pics and i will gladly help you get it dialed in. bigborebanshee
4mil, dune port, 33pwk, 1200 elevation, 80 degrees jetting 160main 45 pilot, CEL needle center clip That plug looks fat on the top end,IM willing to bet even after you get the ignition problems fixed, you will probably be down to 158 or 155 on the main. AKheathen
best to let jeff handle the tuning.
jbooker82
Yea I would do as jeff said. Your mods are pretty similar to mine. I am currently cunning a 160 main, 48 pilot, cel needles middle clip.
