Correct 87-89 have j arms nerwer have a arms, 87-89 has a different ignition and rear hub size as well other then that theres nothing I can think of. As for the 450s they sound modded pretty good but with the setup you mentioned you'd have a good chance. Id get the t5s or dmcs personally or pro circuits I didn't care for my fmfs. Port your reed cages its free and easy if you have a dremel some bits and time. Also you do some porting to your cylinders even if you just clean up the casting flaws and open up the intakes some youll see some gains. If you smooth out the exhaust ports or if you raise them your going to see alot more and if you do transfer work. Your going to need some good tires to hook up because those 450s get some good traction. I went with a -2 swingarm and wont ever regret it. Better jumping traction ect even with bald 18 inch carlisles and can wheelie through a field no problem. Hope that helps!

It just depends on what type of port job and who did it. You really dont know what you have until you take the jugs off and send them to a reputable banshee builder. You cant tell by looking at the intake ports. If the guy that ported the cylinders was a no name just looking for cash all he would have to do is make the intake ports look flashy and fast, take the money and run. Some people wouldnt even know the difference.

Then you get in to the fact that not all 2 strokes are the same, different engines have different requirements. Just cause they port a mean 125 or 250cc dirt bike doesnt meen they build a sweet banshee engine. That is why I would stick with some one who is KNOWN for building banshee engines.

87-90 have J arms, 91 on have A arms. wiring harnesses ran 87-94, 95-96, 97-2001, 2002-2006. CdI boxes follow the wire narness breaks except 97-2006 are all the same. Front brake master cylinders changed in 2002 when they added the big rear brake/tail light. Stators are 87-94 and 95-2006. Coils and voltage regulators are the same for all years. Most of the switches also follow the wire harnes breaks or are the same for all years All year front wheels are the same, the rear wheels and hubs are different in 89 and 90, all other years are the same. The rear sprocket uses 6 bolt from 89 on, the 87 and 88s use 4 bolts. There are other minor differnces over the year but all the big stuff pretty much interchanges.
