Porting reed cages?

Recommended Posts

a little hypocritically? so you went from VF reeds to ported and expected to see a gain? and if you could read, i never said i ported my cages and got 10hp, i said you shouldn't expect to see horsepower gains, but a snapper throttle. also $150 or around $20 for someone to port them. also with porting you can have them ported for your setup, like better low rpm velocity or high rpm velocity.

well i would have to try and port them for a different rpm range.even with porting, from what i gather,u need a good set of reeds, which right there is around a 100 for carbon techs or similar brand.yeah,i tried the ported ones after v3s,i was looking for a upgrade.if all it helps is throttle response than ok.since i had the 3s,maybe thats y i didnt notice anything, but dont u still have to spend the cash on good reeds or use stockers.i would try it again to tune for a different power range, but im still skeptical.its a decent amount of work to do that, when i already have 3s.i have wanted to try stockers, unported, with low mid carbontechs but its 100 bux and i dont want to spend the cash if there isnt a gain somewhere either in throttle response, etc.a gain period.so am i gonna see my 100 go to use by going low rpm ported cages and low mid reeds?and i already know the v3s are a high rpm reed assembly, and i want a low rpm motor.i just hate spending money and getting minimal or no results.porting the motor was the best money ive ever spent,as im sure everybody will agree.input on to change or leave the 3s in?

boysen dual stage- if you are on a tight budget, or ride woods and don't wanna spend 100, then just get the power reeds. they will make power, and low rpm will be smoother, with a gain in the top, and less lightswitch. the pro reeds will be snappier, and crisper. it's hard going from a reed that gains everywhere, then trying to compare.......both charriot cages with the boysen reeds, and vforce pu out the most, just feel different. so, if you wanna try, pickup some power reeds and do your stockker, but you will get pretty much what you are looking for from the charriot, which you can just about pay for by sellin the vforce reeds.

Im ditching my VF-3 and going to try the Chariot. Wich reeds you recommend Heath. The dual stage right? Superstock or power?

the 2 dual stages are power and pro. since you do allot of dune, and probably not woods, go with the pro, which should come with the charriot cages, if i'm not mistaken, and they sell replacements really cheap. superstock reeds are basically stock reeds with a little different tension, and really are for stockish motors with basic bolt-ons. i'm running the pro reeds on stock ported cages right now, but i still keep the power reeds around, since i really like how well they smooth everything right from the bottom and in the powerband kick. what that translates into is- you reasonably get the ammount of power you want in relation to how much throttle you give it, which really helps when i want to go exploring through the woods. i like the pro's for faster trails, hill shooting, and all-around even crisp performance. i'm still waiting to get the charriot cage, untill i have the rest of the 4mill put together..

I would ask Chariot which reeds fit his cages, he's a site sponsor.

I'm 99% certain changing reeds will not fix your low end bog...unless you currently have a leak that putting a new set in seals up or the old petals are bad...in which case it'll normally show at high RPMs not low ones.

It's either jetting, electrical or engine setup (air leak, combustion chamber inefficiency...etc.)

Has anyone tried the TDR Carbon fiber or Epoxy reeds? I can get any of them on the market but havent heard much on theres.

I tried some TDR super modified carbon fibers (think thats right can't quite remember) I put them on some ported cages and there was a nice difference. Its been a while but I remember them being pretty stiff so im not sure if thats going to benefit top or bottem end. I can say they were nice and quality made and to me they worked pretty nicely. :headbang:
