Would anyone out there with a running shee be willing to swap my CDI box in to see if it is dead?? I will ship it to someone and if they can swap it and tell me if its bad, I would appreciate it. Whoever does it and if the box is bad,you can keep it for target practice!! hahaha...thanks for any help out there guys! Its the 95-96 plug style too

Or you'll wind up in a shady deal where someone has a bad box, tries your box, uses your box, and then tells you that your unit was bad. What makes you believe your CDI is bad?

I hate dealing with electrical components because if you purchase a faulty unit (I claim victim to a DYNA ignition with one bad channel) there is usually no returns... So, if you've checked power feeding the CDI and are sure the flywheel magnets are sending a signal to the pick up, and that the coil/wire assembly is okay, then I suggest purchasing a new unit from a reputable place. Good luck!

The really bad thing is, the 95, and 96 model years used a different style plug than all the other years, so those two year's CDI boxes are harder to come by, and more expensive. If it were me, I'd go with an aftermarket box, because they are usually cheaper, and better quality. I know, there are always a few bad apples in the bunch, but for the most part, you're better off with aftermarket parts.

Stay away from anything that has the names, RM Stator, or Ricky Stator on it. Too many people having problems with all of their electrical parts. Many say they are POS. The 95's, and 96's are harder to find, and more expensive, because they used a completely different plug on those two years. I have a 96, and that's why I'm running a different CDI box, because the OEM was hella high.

Except for when it comes to electrical parts, OEM is the best there. The only aftermarket CDI boxes worth a damn are from DYNA or MSD and the MSD unit uses a battery. You can buy an OEM for about the same money as either of those.

the 96s are hard to find

You can use a 97 up box by taking the plug off your 95-96 box and puting it on the later box, just match the wire colors up. I would recomend NOT cutting the wires, but take the terminals out of the plastic connectors and swapping the connectors. You will end up with a green/yellow wire left over on the late model box, it is the park brake rev limiter wire. Just tape it up good so it can't short to ground and you will be good to go.
