camatv Posted June 5, 2010 Report Share Posted June 5, 2010 if its an all original 87 i'd say it needs a clutch. best way to fix it is replace it. the type f trans fluid breaks down very fast i'd use any other motorcycle specific oil in the bottom end besides that crap. get a manual or look online for adjusting it thats very cucial to these bikes. the tusk clutch works great lube your clutch cable and install all the springs that come with it ( if you buy the one including springs hopefully you did) the springs in that kit arent much stiffer than stock and with a lubed cable and proper adjustment shouldnt pull any harder..
