Hard Cold Start!?

Recommended Posts

I looking to buy a banshee and found one i really like. The only issue with it is, you have to push start it cold. After its been running it starts first kick but when cold it has to be push started. Should I stay away from this bike? Could it just simply be a jetting issue? Or could it be something major? I runs like a beast, just hard to start.

Thanks Guys

Could be jetting or low compression, see if the guy will let you compression test it before buying it.

If it was the compression it would need a fresh top end?

definatly, you would need to buy a whole top end kit, low compression usually causes this kind of hard starting, but in the same place, air leaks can cause the same thing, but do a compression test, if the compression is good then it must have an air leak, because if you said it runs beast, then jetting must not be bad, could be just a bad air leak, i have an air leak on mine, and it cause it to start pretty hard in like 4 kicks, but the compression is good

Could also be bad reeds. Mine had a similar problem. Checked comp, electrical, air leaks, jets, cleaned carbs several times. Reeds looked OK (no chips or cracks) except they were not laying flat against the cage. Turned them around, still probs. Finally said fuggit and replaced them, bike now starts right up cold and runs like a champ.
